Over the past few years, I have experienced the heartbreaking loss of people I loved dearly. I lost my mum to Covid in 2020, my best friend Tracy to cancer in 2002, and my sister to cancer in 2025. These losses are still incredibly painful, and cancer has affected my life in more ways than I can put into words. I am also a cancer survivor myself, so I know just how frightening, exhausting, and emotional this journey can be. My best friend Tracy was more than a friend to me — she was family. Before she passed, she entrusted me with her cherished dog, Ralph, to love and care for. Ralph is not just a pet; he is a living connection to someone I loved deeply. He is also the father of my dog Zeus, who came into our family through him, making Ralph even more special to us. Recently, I received the devastating news that Ralph has cancer. As any dog owner will understand, our dogs are not “just animals.” They are family. They comfort us, love us unconditionally, stand beside us through grief, and somehow know when we need them most. Ralph has been that kind of companion — loyal, gentle, loving, and deeply precious to me. I have now booked Ralph’s first surgery, which is due to take place in two weeks’ time. After this, he may also need further treatment, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and additional veterinary care, depending on what the specialists advise. I do not yet know the full cost of everything Ralph will need, but I know it is going to be a significant amount. I am doing everything I possibly can for him, but I am now asking for help to give Ralph the best possible chance. Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much.
