<div>On Friday, June 2, 2023, Ajike "Aj" Owens, a devoted and loving mother of four, was tragically and unjustifiably murdered in an attempt to protect her children from racism and violence. Her mother is now left to raise her grandchildren. AJ's story is chronicled in the Netflix documentary The Perfect Neighbor.

<div>Ajike's children were playing in a field next to an Ocala apartment complex when an unidentified 58-year-old white woman reportedly began yelling at them and calling them racial slurs. The children left but accidentally left an iPad behind, which the woman took. When one of the children went to her residence to retrieve it, she threw it, hitting the boy and cracking the screen. After Ajike's children informed her of what happened, she walked across the street with her kids to speak with the woman. She knocked on the door, and at that point, the woman allegedly shot through the door, hitting Ajike, who later died from her injuries. The woman responsible has not yet been identified, arrested, or charged with anything by law enforcement.

<div>Ajike Owens (affectionately known as AJ) graciously affected all she came into contact with her infectious personality. She had a smile that would light up the room. But most of all, she was known for how much she loved and absolutely lived for her four children. To say she loved her children unconditionally is an understatement. She was a single mother whose life centered around her children. She was the Team Mom for her children’s football/cheerleading teams. She excelled professionally as a manager in the Restaurant/Hospitality industry. She was a devoted Christian who believed in bringing her kids up in a supportive Christian environment. After being a devoted mother, she was a devoted friend that took friendships to heart. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for those near and dear to her heart. She often would give to other single mothers that were in similar situations that she’d been in.

Hi everyone,
<br />I never thought I’d be writing something like this, but life has taken a turn I never expected. I’ve been diagnosed with Stage 4 lymphoma, with tumors pressing on my heart and lungs.

I’m currently going through aggressive treatment, but on top of everything else, I’ve learned that much of my outpatient care isn’t covered by my current insurance.<br /><br />This means many of my essential treatments, medications, and even basic living expenses are now coming directly out of pocket.

I’m also unable to work right now, which has made this situation even more overwhelming. Every day, I’m doing everything I can to focus on healing—but the financial strain has become impossible to manage on my own.<br /><br />If you’re unable to donate, simply sharing this fundraiser would mean so much and could help it reach others who may be able to contribute.

Honoring Austin Metcalf: Help His Family Heal

<div>On July 23th, my cousin Scarlett was rushed to the emergency department for what she thought was appendicitis. However, upon evaluation with a CT scan, the doctor gave her the diagnosis of a spinal (L-4) fracture, as well as a referral to a specialist with no further details. As instructed, she followed up with an oncologist, not thinking much of it, when suddenly, her whole life flashed before her eyes when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. With the CT scan, the doctor saw she had a mass the size of two golf balls in her right breast, nodules in her lungs, and a fracture in her spine where cancer had spread. Our fears became a reality when the doctor diagnosed her with advanced-stage breast cancer.

<div>Two weeks after receiving the news, the severe daily headaches she had been experiencing for nearly 7-weeks became worse. Her blood pressure then drastically dropped, and she was once again rushed to the emergency department. During that visit, another CT scan revealed a bleeding brain tumor. Thankfully, within a few days, doctors were able to remove the leaking brain tumor without complications. Pathology revealed she has stage 4 breast cancer. She is currently receiving radiation to her brain and spine. Following the radiation, the plan is for her to receive chemotherapy and hopefully soon remove the mass in her right breast.

<div>It was heartbreaking to hear that this was happening to her at the very young age of 28, recently married, with an absolutely adorable 1-almost 2-year-old whom she loves with all her heart - How could this be?!
</div>

<div>It pained me more to find out that due to recent developments in her personal life and workplace, she was no longer employed and, therefore, no longer receiving insurance benefits. Fortunately, she was able to secure coverage through COBRA, but her monthly payments are more than what she and her husband can afford.

Support for Robles Family After Eaton Fire Loss

<div>Hi friends and family, my name is Jourdan and I'm reaching out to you because you may or may not be aware that in early November Lucas was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Originally we thought that they had gotten it all in his surgery last month but it has spread to a lymph node so he is now undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Due to the intense Chemotherapy regiment  he’s unable to work for the next six months, and regular life bills and medical bills are becoming a challenge. The hardest part about this situation is that there isn't much we can really do except help alleviate his financial stressors.  Our family has been picking up the slack since he’s been out of work, but we could use some support. We really expect everything to be back to normal in 5-6 months but in the meantime, we would love any possible help from our family, friends and network of friends to help us bridge the gap until he can get back to work. Anything that you can do would be helpful. We would also appreciate all the love and good vibes out there for him so just be thinking good thoughts for him and anything you can do to help would be great. <div>..My name is Ashlee Gambino. I’m 33 years old, a wife, mother, and retired professional fighter. Recently, I’ve faced an intensely tragic string of events that have deeply affected my family and me. That’s why I’m asking for your help.

<div>In late November of last year, we unexpectedly and immediately lost our 3 (almost 4)-year-old daughter to acute leukemia. One week after her funeral, I was diagnosed with a rare heart and lung disease called severe idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. This causes progressive heart failure, a deteriorating condition for which there is no cure. My condition is so severe and fragile that I was given hope of reaching another 5 years. At the time of diagnosis, I was 20 weeks pregnant with a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Due to the severity of my condition, I was forced to terminate my pregnancy to save my life and prevent the suffering of my child. At such a late stage of this untreated condition, I wouldn’t have made it much longer. When it was discovered, the pressures in my lungs were five times what they should have been, and as a result, the right side of my heart is now twice the size it should be.

<div>We lost our two daughters and were informed I have a severe terminal illness within two months. This has completely devastated us mentally, physically, and financially..

<div>I now have to live with a machine attached to my hip that continuously pumps medication through a tube that goes up my shirt, into my chest, and directly into my heart. This medicine is not a cure but a treatment. The treatment is brutal, and sometimes I’m in bed for days. I have to mix my medication and switch out the pump every other day, a process that takes about 45 minutes, along with other routines. I also have to change the dressing for my tube 1-2 times a week, which takes about 25 minutes. Additionally, I must monitor my symptoms, continuously check in with my doctors, and take pills three times a day.

Support Karl and Cristy: Coping with Tragic Loss and a Baby

<div>On April 8,2024 my 15 year old daughter and her teenage co-workers were assaulted at their place of employment. In minutes, our family's life shattered when my only daughter was assaulted outside of the McDonald’s on Parker Road and 367. As shown in the video , there was a number of people whom we later found out were adults. They came into the McDonald’s and began to spit on my daughter and the young man at the cash register. The incident started in the drive thru and escalated inside. The adults also began to destroy McDonald’s property by throwing things and damaging the self serve screens. In the video you can see the Adult male grabbing and dragging Aryiah by her long braids , and stomping her in her head. He then let her go, but returned to punch her numerous of times in her face. She was admitted to one of the local hospitals in Saint Louis with a nose fracture and frontal lobe damage. Aryiah has also sustained a broken nose, a concussion, and many lacerations in her head. Aryiah had to have surgery April 17, which was a success. She is fighting hard to stay upbeat and heal but this is only the beginning of a very uphill battle. She is currently on bed rest in hopes to return to work. She need help with medical expenses.

Baby Zaya had a great delivery until doctors quickly discovered she wasn't able to eat and had an intestinal blockage. She is currently undergoing surgery to remove the blockage(s) and awaiting EKG results due to potential abnormalities found on her heart. Baby Zaya does seem to have a genetic abnormality but the doctors are running numerous tests in order to find answers. In the meantime, she is on an IV and fighting.

Baby Zaya

<div>This is extremely hard for us to do. But we don't know what to do anymore and need all the support we can get. On 09/14/2023 Callie went in for her second open heart surgery to complete her full repair and valve replacement for her Congenital Heart Defect, Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). Everything went as planned and she recovered nicely, we were discharged on 09/20/2023. After a week being home Callie started to decline and have trouble keeping her oxygen up and breathing heavy. Went in for x-rays on 09/29/2023 and they were not good, she had a ton of fluids building on her chest, we were admitted again. On 10/03/2023 we were cleared for discharge, but found out Callie was dropped from her insurance unexpectedly. DES still can't give us an answer on what happened, but they were able to fix it after 5 extra days stuck in the hospital. We were finally discharged on Saturday 10/07/2023. Come Sunday Callie has a fever, is sluggish, oxygen dipping slightly and her incision is leaking a small amount. Cardio wasn't super concerned but started her back on antibiotics and asked for updates if it got worse. Monday, 10/09/2023, we woke up and she was continuously leaking out of her incision with almost 102 fever. We packed up, contacted the cardio team and headed straight back to the hospital. She was basically pouring fluids from her chest at this point. The surgeon took one look at her and said he was opening her back up and she had a serious wound infection. She went to the OR at 3pm then, and they said it was a infected mess in her chest. Blood cultures came back positive for infection and stated she is septic. She is currently intubated for rest and comfort, with lines feeding in meds and antibiotics continuously, a drain tube and catheter. She will be in the hospital for at least 2 weeks getting IV antibiotics to stop the infection. During this time we haven't been able to work, and having to try to take FMLA has been a hassle. While still caring for Ryder the best we can. We appreciate all the love and support and we wouldn't ask if we really didn't need the financial support. <p>Levi was a very special little boy. He overcame SO much in his short life from living with Autism, Arnold Chiari Malformation, a Tethered Spinal Chord and numerous genetic abnormalities, and failure to thrive.

<p>On Sunday morning (8/8) just before the family was getting ready to go out to lunch.
</p>

<p>Levi disappeared. We struggled with him getting out, but Julia had taken SO many precautions in their home to keep him safe.
</p>

<p>Locks, alarms, pool fence, among other things.
</p>

<p>Somehow Levi managed to get in the pool.
</p>

<p>Julia noticed he was missing after searching the house.
</p>

<p>She went to the pool first but because it had been neglected by the pool company it was green and beyond murky.
</p>

<p>So she didn't see Levi. He was at the bottom!
</p>

<p>Julia called 911 fearing Levi had made it out in the neighborhood somewhere.
</p>

<p>Police were quick to dispatch a helicopter and many officers to help. They began skimming the pool (also unable to see Levi in there) eventually they felt something and got him out.
</p>

<p>But it was too late. They got his heart beating but he had been under so long he never regained consciousness.
</p>

<p>At PCH it was determined he had no real brain activity.
</p>

<p>And on Monday night his heart began failing and his lungs as well.
</p>

<p>About 11:00PM Levi entered heavens gates.
</p>

<p>He left this world being cradled by his parents and surrounded by love.
</p>

<p>The loss of a child is unimaginable and Julia has had no time to financially prepare for this, so as humbling as it is to ask she could really use some help.
</p>

<p>We are grateful for anything, even if it is just prayers.<br /><br />Anything given beyond Levi's final expenses will go towards grief counseling and PTSD treatment for Julia and Grace. The trauma they suffered has been devastating .<br />Thank you!

9 year old Aaliyah Rose Velasquez was leaving Heritage Park crossing the street in the crosswalk when she was hit directly by an SUV who did not yield.  Aaliyah was rushed to UMC's pediatric ICU with damaged lungs and bleeding in her brain. Her father Richard Velasquez is in our local Tundra group that we consider family and we want to help in this time of need. I met Keith, 64, when he was living at Destination Hope, a Safe Parking Program in LA for people who live in their vehicles. A true gentleman, he always gave us the biggest smile &amp; hug when we would come serve dinner. <br /><br />A few months into the COVID-19 pandemic, Keith was able to secure temporary housing at Griffith Park Adult Community Center through the "Project Room Key" program. During this time, he secured a part time job at a fulfillment center, working the graveyard shift. <br /><br />Unfortunately, after several mechanical issues, Keith's 93 Honda Accord tapped out. Due to the loss of his transportation, Keith also lost his job. He is in the process of renewing his commercial driver's license and is actively seeking work. <br /><br />Any contribution towards a new mode of transportation would be greatly appreciated. On Friday July 27th, Gary's simple life changed drastically.  He was involved in a motorcycle accident that incurred multiple critical injuries.  Gary was medflighted to Tufts Medical Center with uncertainty of his future.  As of today, he has undergone five surgeries in the last four days. After a very painful few days, Gary has a small glimmer of light at the end of a very long tunnel.  His life sustaining injuries will affect his current employment and health.  He is a free spirit that has touched many people throughout his journeys. Although simple with his mantra to enjoy life, he is now complicated by this debilitating accident and injuries. Family and friends are reaching out for any support to aid in Gary's recovery and healing process.<br /><br />Every donation will be put towards Gary's medical bills to support him in his very long road to recovery. He's a wonderful guy with a big heart and an infectious smile. <br /><br />Unfortunately, earlier this week, Maxwell had a senior moment, lost his footing and fell into a swimming pool. He took in a lot of water. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition and requires oxygen. Our daughter, Gina Rose Montalto, was a victim of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14, 2018.<br /><br />Gina was a special girl who melted every heart with her infectious smile that lit up a room. She was instant friends with everyone she met. She had a great sense of humor, and always made people laugh. She was a kind spirit, always eager to lend a helping hand.  She was a member of her school Color Guard – a team which she loved dearly, a Girl Scout, and active member in her local church. She was a talented artist who illustrated for a local magazine. She enjoyed volunteering and loved little kids.  She loved to cook with her Father and her Grandmother, especially during the holiday season. She was an avid reader and loved Harry Potter books, Hunger Games and Wonder Woman.  She loved fashion and enjoyed shopping, spa days with Mom and NY Jets games with Dad.  She played soccer and flag football in the local recreational leagues.  She always earned the highest grades in school and had a bright future ahead of her. She was best buddies with her little brother and she loved her whole family especially all her cousins. <br /><br />Gina will be missed not only by her family, but by everyone whose life she touched. Gina always took great pride in her education. High grades and school involvement were a huge part of Gina's life. She always looked for ways to help others. My baby brother Chad was in a horrific accident on Tuesday December 23rd. As of today December 24th the Dr&#039;s have declared my sweet, loving, kind brother brain dead.
