<div>In the thick of the holiday season this year, Kelly was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. I’m sure we’re all probably thinking, “how could something like this happen to a person so young who lives an incredibly healthy lifestyle?” For those who don’t know Kelly, this diagnosis makes her part of that statistic that proves that lung cancer is <em>not</em> a “smokers disease”, but actually a women’s health issue.

<div>Kelly McYoung (McCabe) is a teacher at Sequoia Elementary School and a well-known figure in the swim community in Contra Costa County. She is loved by so many because her selflessness and generosity has touched so many families she’s created relationships with over the years. The impact Kelly has had on the children she’s taught and coached through her career can be attributed to her natural motherly instinct and can be seen and felt whenever she walks into a room. Her life at home is no different. The amount of love Kelly gives her family is a special and unexplainable bond that cannot be replaced. Kelly is the embodiment of unconditional love and despite the challenges she will endure, she will face them with incredible strength and determination.

<div>While Kelly begins to wrap her mind around what she’s learned about her health, she’s surrounded herself with the most loving support system: who at the foundation is her wife, Megan, and their precious boys, Mayce (4) and Krue (2). Their family and close friends are all rallying together to seek out the best professionals in the area who might want to take a chance to look at Kelly’s case to find answers and give her the best fighting chance she deserves. Chemotherapy and surgery are already expected to happen in early 2025, however, so much more of her treatment plan is still unknown. Though still early in her fight against cancer, the McYoungs are already anticipating the financial responsibilities this journey will accrue.

<div>We are looking to raise funds on behalf of our loved one Andrew Moss and his medical expenses. He has been diagnosed with cancer and has been in and out of the hospital for the last few months with some of those hospital stays being over 5 days long. Support Andrew's Fight Against Metastatic Cancer

<div>Our 8-year old son, Asa – soccer enthusiast, math wizard, and devoted brother and friend – was struck by a stray bullet while riding in our car on the freeway in Oakland. Bullet and bone fragments pierced (and some lodged in) the spinal column of his neck. Initially, we had no idea if our sweet boy would live.

<div>But he is a fighter, and we have gotten and are getting the best possible medical care.

<div>Two weeks later, Asa is not only alive, but he’s making us laugh, reading his favorite books and requesting songs by Imagine Dragons. His intellect, his spirit, and his love of life are very much intact.

<div>His body is forever changed. At this point, he is experiencing complete paralysis below the neck. We are profoundly relieved that our boy is alive and very much himself, and we are also starting to understand the vast implications of his new reality. Moving forward, Asa will require a mechanical respirator to live, tube feeds for nutrition, and 24-hour, around-the-clock nursing care.

<div>On Thursday, April 13, 2023, my nephew Ralph P Yarl was on his way to pick up his twin younger brothers from their friend's house a few blocks away from his house. He didn't have his phone. He mistakenly went to the wrong house, one block away from the house where his siblings were. He pulled into the driveway and rang the doorbell. The man in the home opened the door, looked my nephew in the eye, and shot him in the head. My nephew fell to the ground, and the man shot him again. Ralph was then able to get up and run to the neighbor's house, looking for help.

<div>Unfortunately, he had to run to 3 different homes before someone finally agreed to help him after he was told to lie on the ground with his hands up.
</div>

<div>Ralph Pual Yarl is a fantastic kid, and I am not just saying this because he is my nephew. He truly is. At school, he is a member of the Technology Student Association and Science Olympia Team. Jazz and competition band. He is a section leader in the marching band; a scholar and one of the top bass clarinet players in Missouri. He recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention. He plays multiple instruments in the metropolitan youth orchestra. He is a 2022 Missouri scholar academy alumni. Ralph can often be found with a musical instrument. He loves them all.

<div>Last summer, Ralph attended Missouri Scholar’s Academy, where he got a full college life experience. His goal is to attend Texas A&amp;M to major in chemical Engineering. When asked how he plans to get into this university, he said, “Well, if they have a scholarship for music or academics, I know I can get it.”

<div>Ralph's teacher and friends describe him as “ a kind soul,” “quiet,” “friendly,” “well-mannered,” “always willing to help,” “super smart,” and a “musical genius.”

<div>Ralph was looking forward to graduating high school and finally getting the opportunity to visit West Africa before starting college.

<div>Life looks a lot different right now. Even though he is doing well physically, he has a long road ahead mentally and emotionally. The trauma that he has to endure and survive is unimaginable. He is our miracle. We have heard these types of stories many times, and unfortunately, most black boys are not alive to get another chance.

<div>In November 2021 Mike went to see the doctor for what was thought to be pneumonia. That visit resulted in a 3 and half week hospital stay in which he endured open heart surgery, numerous blood transfusions, invasive tests, and an abrupt shift to life as he was living it.

<div>During his hospitalization, Mike was diagnosed with <a href="https://erdheim-chester.org/about-ecd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Erdheim Chester Disease</a> , a rare blood cancer. After going through open heart surgery to remove a tumor, it was revealed to be malignant. Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with <a href="https://www.dovemed.com/diseases-conditions/intimal-sarcoma-of-artery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Intimal Sarcoma</a>,

<div>The last few months have felt like running in slow motion. The ebbs and flows of shock, fear, anger, anxiety ensue, as do the jokes and roasting - coping in all the ways. We honor them all, including going into planning mode with lists, calendars, spreadsheets, and of course, COVID safety.

<div>Last week, Mike began chemotherapy to target the intimal sarcoma. It was in this time, the enormity and possibility of what is ahead for Mike and his family hit. Michael Rubio Cancer Care Fund

Jesse has fought fires tirelessly since Sunday morning. As Jesse’s home burned down, he was putting out fires that were consuming the homes of his neighbor’s and friends.  <br /><br /> <br />For those of you who don’t know him, Jesse is the kind of person that doesn’t have to be asked to give help.  He shows up.  He sees a job not being done and does it—like appearing with a tractor to grade a friend’s mom’s driveway. He has been a volunteer firefighter with Mayacamas VFD since he was old enough to join. <br /><br /> <br />As people discover their barns and homes still standing in the middle of devastation, Jesse’s name keeps popping up… He has been everywhere this week, implicated in the defense of so many places.  He has slept a few hours here and there in his firetruck this week, wearing the only clothing left that he owns.  <br /><br /><br />The home he left Sunday early morning is burned, all possessions gone, except his car. Much of this fire’s devastation has already destroyed the places that Jesse has shaped and cared for:  The vineyards he has been replanting at Mayacamas; His family's vineyard and home at Sky; His cousin's home...and many more.  Jesse is also burdened by the grief and need for support being experienced by his extended family, friends, and business relations.  <br /><br /><br />We know that Jesse will be there for us, we want to be there for him.  Please consider a donation to help him rebuild what he has lost.  Any donation is considered a generous amount, be it with so many in need.  <br /><br />I have known Jesse for 27 years.  After talking with a number of his friends and family about how he has shown up during this time, and what he has lost, we felt moved to ask the broader community to help him.  He deserves it.  While we would like raise cash for him, we may also put together a registry, as there are many things the man could use, and ways to help.  He won't be the type to ask himself. Hello family &amp; friends,<br /><br />I hope this letter finds you are all doing well. As you all know Brenda was involved in an automobile accident on May 3, 2014. She received a cervical spinal injury that has left her a quadriplegic with no hope of regaining the use of her arms or legs. She has minimal shoulder movement and is getting a little stronger with the use of physical therapy. This shoulder movement does allow her to be able to move her wheelchair without assistance. Unfortunately that is about the only thing that she can do without the help of someone else. Brenda has a tracheostomy but is able to breathe on her own. Her goal is to have the tracheostomy removed but currently it is in place so that secretions can be suctioned.<br /><br />Currently Brenda receives state disability but that ends after 1 year (June 2015). Within the last month she started receiving Social Security Disability. But that of course means that the state disability decreased in amount. <br /><br />Up to this point Brenda has been arranging her own care providers and paying out of her pocket. There have been many of her friends and acquaintances that have stepped up to help. Kim has been helping Brenda get through the mountainous amounts of paperwork required for physician referrals, housing and in-home help. These processes for assistance are long and arduous. It is not just the paperwork but also the follow up to make sure they received the paperwork; and then the follow up to make sure that they are completing the paperwork. It can take up to 8-12 weeks for any approvals and that is with calling on a weekly basis to check in. It is very unfortunate that the people that need the help the most get the least. Brenda just received state approval to have 24/7 care covered. But the “process” doesn’t end with the approval. Then there is finding the care givers and making sure they complete all of their paperwork, etc. etc. The process goes on and on. And it is all left to the one needing the help. <br /><br />Another area Brenda is focusing on is Department of Rehabilitation. It is Brenda’s goal to try and get back to work as an instructor at Diablo Valley Jr. College. Once again, more paperwork. But this is an area that will give her purpose. She truly enjoys teaching. <br /><br />One of the biggest obstacles for Brenda at this point is transportation. She is able to receive transportation for her medical appointments but going anywhere else is totally on her own. She has no aversion to public transportation but there are many drawbacks. Public transportation adds so much time to her travels and is truly exhausting for her. There is a support group in Concord that she has tried to attend. In order for her to get from Vallejo (Solano County) to Concord (Contra Costa County), which is under 20 miles she would have to take a bus to Richmond BART station, take BART from Richmond to Concord, then take a bus from Concord BART to meeting place. This could take her up to 3 hours EACH way. She also has to keep in mind how charged the battery on her wheelchair is. <br /><br /><br />Brenda currently lives in Vallejo (Solano County). She is trying to make the transition to Contra Costa County (once again it is paperwork and waiting on approval!!). Contra Costa County will not only make it easier because of her hopes of returning to Diablo Valley Jr. College and the peer group but it also has many more resources for the quadriplegic. <br /><br />To help with her transportation we are looking for a reasonable deal on a used, well-equipped van that is safe and in good shape. It needs to be easy for all of the care providers to drive and use, provide enough room to be comfortable, while being safe because Brenda has a true fear of being reinjured. By getting a van this will allow Brenda more freedom to what we take for granted day to day. We may complain when we need to run to the store because someone drank the rest of the milk or ate the last piece of bread. I’m sure she would trade places with us in a second. This brings us to the reason for this letter. I know that we all can’t be there to help her with her day-to-day life but if there is anything we can do to make it easier I am going to try. I know everyone has his or her own issues/responsibilities (trust me I know I will have 2 kids in college in a few months) but any amount of money you can give can help us get Brenda a van for her own personal transportation. It can help her from feeling isolated. It can be one less thing that she needs to work out/think about/worry about. No amount is too small. Brenda's Transportation Fund

Ella Marie was born on June 26, 2014. She came into this world with two people who loved her more than words can describe. Along with a Huge number of family and friends who fell in love her the second they laid eyes on her. <br /><br />Her Mommy and Daddy spent the next few months getting to know her. With each day passing by little Ella Marie was growing up so fast! Rolling over by 2 months old, Holding her head up nice and strong and was a Pro at tummy time. Ella was hitting milestones one right after the other! She could brighten up any room! This sweet girl was ALL Smiles! All it took was her laying eyes on her Mommy and Ella would smile so big. The sight of those beautiful eyes staring back at her mama could make anyone’s heart melt. We all knew how much Ella loved her Mommy.<br /><br /> Anyone that knows Liz knows how much her children mean to her! They always have been her number #1. Family and Friends know she has had a very rough year. From pregnancy complications, difficult family situations and losing her job while on Maternity leave due to the business closing its doors, life has been tough. However, Liz continued to keep her head held high, staying positive and knowing things would get better. Life was just getting back on track and things seemed to be going well.  Then sadly on October 4, 2014 Liz woke up and faced her worst nightmare, any mother’s worst fear.... Her Beautiful, Happy and Sweet Baby Girl was non-responsive.  Liz tried to stay strong and everyone could see that. I know we all ask ourselves, "How does she do it?" It’s called Strength and the Love for our children. For all of those that were able to show support for Liz and Brian yesterday while they said their good byes to their Precious Baby Girl, Thank You!<br /><br /> We can't even begin to understand what Ella’s Mommy and Daddy are going through or how hard the road ahead will be for them during this time of grieving. All we can do is come together and offer them our support and love. No parent ever should have to go through losing a child.  Let alone planning a funeral.<br /><br /> We are reaching out to anyone that can help financially. Funeral expenses are going to add up fast. This all was unexpected and money is the last thing they should be worrying about. If you are able to help donate anything towards funeral costs and any other unexpected expenses along the way we would greatly appreciate it. Every bit helps!<br /><br /> From the bottom of our hearts our deepest condolences go out to the parents and loved ones of Ella Marie.
