*Update* Ike passed away yesterday 12/23/25 with Diane holding his hand and family by his side. He is now relieved from his pain and in a better place. Please keep Diane in your thoughts as she grieves this devastating loss. Richard “Ike” Isakson dedicated his life to serving others. As a wildland firefighter, volunteer firefighter, EMT, fire chief for Patagonia Fire, and even mayor of Patagonia, Ike’s commitment to his community was unwavering. He also served in the Navy and fought in Vietnam, always putting others before himself. For 32 years, he and his wife Diane worked side by side, volunteering and making a difference in countless lives. Their partnership was a true example of love and service. Ike’s passion for helping others was contagious—he encouraged his son Aarron, and many others, to join the department. It became a family effort, with countless dinners left on the table and eaten cold after all of them responded to calls together. At one point, Ike and Diane even missed celebrating their anniversary in Tucson so they could respond to a fire in Patagonia. The Isakson family’s dedication to service touched so many lives in Patagonia and beyond. In October, our family received heartbreaking news: Ike was diagnosed with a brain tumor and given just three months to live. The suddenness of his illness has been overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. The pain feels even heavier as we face this loss so close to Christmas. Navigating this difficult time during the holidays has made the unexpected funeral expenses and the challenge of honoring Ike’s legacy even more overwhelming. Diane, his wife of 32 years, has been by his side through it all, and we want to ensure she doesn’t have to worry about financial burdens while she grieves. We are reaching out to our friends, family, and the Patagonia community for support. Your generosity will help cover funeral costs and allow Diane to focus on healing. Ike was so proud to call Patagonia his home and serve this community. He saved many lives and truly loved what he did. Any contribution, big or small, is deeply appreciated and will help us honor a man who gave so much to others.
