<div>January 2023, 16 individuals made the courageous journey to Fresno, California, seeking asylum from political and economic turmoil in their homeland.

<div>The families entered the United States through the southern boarder in Texas, then shipped to Colorado where they braved the winter conditions, before making their way to the city of Fresno.

<div>While the 16 individuals were granted legal entry and asylum parole, the families face a long wait for their court hearing dates, scheduled for 2025.
</div>

<div>City Council, District 3, Councilmember Miguel Arias first made contact with the families February 1st, and has since connected with local organizations such as ELF for support and aid during this uncertain period the individuals find themselves caught in the midst in.

Support Isaac's Fight Against Leukemia

<a href="http://progressiveseverywhere.substack.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Progressives Everywhere</a>  is a newsletter and website that spotlights and fundraises for progressive Democrats around the country — up and down the ballot — worth supporting with your time and money. The newsletter gives you the rundown on the most important political races across the country, with insight from candidates, activists, and experts, and gives you the tools to help the fight against Trump, the GOP, and frankly, corporate Democrats.<br /><br />So far, Progressives Everywhere has raised over $4.3 million for progressive Democratic candidates and causes since late 2017, all on the power of small-dollar donations. The newsletter and stories have raised money for candidates in crucial races that helped oust bad Republicans, empower progressive challengers like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and flip the balance of power in swing states, where people have spent years under brutal GOP regimes, where tax cuts for the rich have been prioritized over healthcare and education.<br /><br />In 2018, we helped usher in progressive changes in states like Michigan, Maine, North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, and Colorado, where new Democrats have either passed big new progressive laws or at least had the numbers to stop the worst Republican tyranny.<br /><br />Now, in 2020, we're doubling down to help as many legislative candidates flip states blue and progressive challengers to conservative Democrats give blue seats actual Democratic representation. Already, we've helped Mondaire Jones win his primary in New York, powered candidates in Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Georgia with tens of thousands of dollars, and raised $1.5 million for bail funds during the height of the #BlackLivesMatters protests.<br /><br />We're also now sending out newsletters five nights a week and Sunday to paid subscribers (and two a week to free subscribers). That means more time spent researching, interviewing, transcribing, and writing — which in turn means doing less other work for pay. It means higher fees for newsletter services, legal protection, and other necessities.<br /><br />So far, this has been done entirely out of pocket. But as the project grows, that becomes less and less feasible. That's why I started this GoFundMe page — not to turn a major profit, but to make sure Progressives Everywhere can continue to do this work and I can afford to keep it going.

<div>Sixteen migrants arrived on June 2 from El Paso TX via Las Cruces, NM, and were abandoned outside of a church in Sacramento. An additional twenty migrants arrived on June 5th. They are seeking asylum after a dangerous and long journey. Many of them arrived in Sacramento with only a single backpack, no sweaters, shoes that they have been wearing since the start of their journey, and in some cases, requiring urgent medical care. They all have immigration cases and court dates.

<div><strong>Sacramento ACT </strong>needs your help within the next two weeks to provide these asylum seekers with food, shelter, and medical care. Any donation, no matter the size, will help us ensure they have meals to eat and safe, temporary shelter.

<div>Sacramento County is currently leading the coordination of reception and response activities for arriving migrants in coordination with the City of Sacramento, the State of California and community partners. NGOs and faith-based organizations in Sacramento are providing emergency sheltering and support services, with support from local volunteers and community groups. The State of California is providing Sacramento County with technical assistance and example resources from the Border Mission, as appropriate. The California Department of Justice is investigating whether any of the activities or actions associated with the relocation of migrants from Texas and Florida to California is in violation of any state or federal laws.

<div>Sacramento ACT, a PICO affiliate, is providing shelter, food, clothing and a range of services to the migrants, with support from multiple partner organizations. Donations are urgently needed within the next two weeks to address the following critical needs:

<div>On bad days with MG, Jade cannot see, read, speak, swallow, breathe on her own, or move a muscle. Due to RA and Lupus, she also lives with excruciating nerve and muscle pain and, unfortunately, painkillers have no effect upon her condition. She is homebound and reliant on a home nurse and a motorized wheelchair, and is often unable to communicate.

<div>There is <strong>only one therapy left </strong>that may save Jade's life–<strong>HSCT</strong> (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation). This treatment removes stem cells from her bone marrow before her immune system is wiped out with chemotherapy. <strong>After chemo</strong>, her own stem cells will be reintroduced to her body–thus resetting her malfunctioning immune system with a healthy one. The treatment requires a lengthy hospitalization at a medical research center that has full quarantine facilities. Jade is ready and willing (and strong and brave) to undergo HSCT.

<div>We wish to see her thrive again and reach her potential. She dreams of doing the things that once gave her pleasure, from reading and painting to playing violin and hiking. <div><br />On Friday June 24, an unforeseeable tragedy hit our family when the Planet Vegan food truck exploded unexpectedly. (Owner)Joe (Ellis)was on the truck at the time of the accident, sending him to the hospital. His quick thinking to jump out the window of the truck is what has saved his life. He has been in critical care since the incident. As of now, he is suffering from severe burns throughout 35% of his body forcing him  to under go multiple surgeries this week.  This will help him with the trauma this disaster has cause  upon him.<br /><br />Joe has a long road to recovery ahead &amp; your donations will go to help with medical expenses, and for his pain and suffering . Joe loves his business Planet Vegan and the people he worked with, he dedicated himself on the truck to serve people plant-based food and creating change to his community. Planet Vegan Explosion.Burn Victim

We need your help today to save Fresno's Historic Tower Theatre and the heart of its cultural and performing arts district. Tower District Supporters, we are calling on you to chip in what you can to support this legal fund so our local small businesses can challenge the sale and claim their legal rights now being trampled by the Theatre's pending sale.  <br /><br />Fresno's Historic Tower Theatre is being sold to a local church in violation of the City's Zoning, the decades old Tower Specific Plan, and outside the order of fair public oversight for land use changes through City established Planning and Implementation Committees. The attempted purchase and sale blatantly circumvents a Right of First Refusal held by Sequoia Brewing Company in its lease.  A spot rezoning of the Tower Theatre and complex were to occur, as required by local zoning law, it would upend the long established Commercial Main Street Zone and put at-risk the sensitive use permits of the Tower District's bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and live entertainment venues.  That means no more liquor licenses, no new bars, no new clubs and entertainment venues, and no way that the current business could sell and transfer the existing licenses. This could impact business up to 1,000 feet from the Theatre, which is nearly the entire district. This could also displace many local non-profit film festivals, non-profit live performance festivals and even Sunday opera performances. <br /><br />Sequoia Brewing Company, with the support of the community is seeking to have their legal rights recognized and be given the opportunity to purchase the Tower Theatre and complex, maintain its current land use and zoning, and safeguard the entire district from any possible rezone and resulting economic damages. The Theatre complex is currently in escrow despite unauthorized land use, a generous offer of support from the City of Fresno to find a building appropriately zoned, and overwhelming community opposition. Over 100 Tower District businesses, property owners, homeowners, and professional associations, along with over 2,000 additional community members, supporters and local faith leaders signed on to a letter demanding the City of Fresno intervene to prevent the sale and subsequent rezone. The property owners and the current buyers have not been persuaded and have instead elected to press on in defiance and threaten to pursue legal action rather than the traditional application process for permits irrespective of the legal rights of Sequoia Brewing Company, the community and the City of Fresno.
