Meet the TYWLS Tigers Small Varsity Cheerleaders of Jamaica, Queens. We are a New York City public school cheer team consisting of 9th – 12th graders with a lot of spirit and C-H-E-E-R!!! Our team cheers competitively and for the Eagle Academy SEQ Football and Basketball Teams.
As a relatively new team made up of young ladies who are participating in the sport of cheerleading for the first time with grit and determination – we entered in the UCA Regionals. This team has SPIRIT!! We were all so nervous leading up to competition. We did not place at the Pocono Regional but we recognized something special in our girls… a fight and desire in their eyes. Not only did this team make changes and practice non-stop for one week, they nailed their routine, took SECOND place in their division and received our FIRST EVER NATIONALS BID. We cheered so loud for them when the results were announced; we may have been heard back in QUEENS!
So, next stop on this once in a lifetime experience is the 2017 Nationals in Disney World in February! Back to the mats for these girls to tighten up their routine, nail those stunts, and excel in their cheer. They are working so hard and have a lot of momentum on the mats. Not only do these girls practice so hard under the direction of their two amazing coaches, they have become like family –the bond they have is unbreakable. For these girls, this success and opportunity is teaching them a life skill of working together and overcoming adversity; that heart and determination is just as important as skill!!
These girls deserve to go Nationals, they have worked so hard for it and they want to represent the Young Women’s Leadership Network, their school and families. However this cheerleading trip can become very expensive. We have put together this page to help with the costs of sending these amazing girls to Nationals. Because we are not funded by the school, we rely on family and community to help us fundraise to help with the costs. Any bit helps and no donation is too small. We thank you for your consideration!
