Hello and Welcome to my campaign page. My name is Jerry Gatlin II, better known as Twoby, pronounced 2B. I was born on February 7th 1982 in Henderson Texas. Fast forward to 1987 and I came down with meningitis, and I really can’t say much more about that experience because I honestly can’t remember much about it other than that as a result the doctors had no choice but to amputate both of my arms just below the elbows and both legs just above the knees. I live in Troup, Texas and have my entire life.
I have issues I have to deal with because of my amputations. First, with the amputations of my legs being just above the knees with every step I take there is around 140lbs of weight being supported by my hips and after 31years of walking this way it is finally beginning to catch up to me. I constantly have hip pains and lower back pain & it doesn’t help that one leg is about 2inches shorter than the other so I walk with a limp. I also live with my grandparents and neither one is able to drive. There are times when it’s up to me to run errands like going to the grocery store and having to carry back whatever was needed and we live about 8-9 blocks from the store.
Another issue is that since I turned 21 medicaid will no longer cover the prosthetics I use in order to get around. I do what I can with repairs but eventually making any repair’s will get harder and harder to do, so having a more reliable way to get around will slow the amount of damage done from walking.
What I’m trying to do is get myself a reliable way to get around so I don’t have to walk as much. I’ve had several golf carts over the years but I’ve about decided that isn’t going to be worth it in the long run because the batteries eventually go bad and with my previous golf carts the cost of new batteries were about $800 for a set of 4 and I’ve never had a set even last a year and having to spend $800 or more every year for batteries isn’t something I can do.
What I have in mind of what I think would be a better option for me is something like a Side-by-Side ATV. The reason I believe an ATV would be good for me is because not only would it prevent me from having to walk as much, if I was to get one with a trailer hitch I could eventually try to get a small trailer and I would be able to haul around a riding lawn mower during the spring and summer months and mow yards for extra money.
