Tuesday Night Dinners Fund

“It helps because it is one less meal to worry about during the week.”

That’s Cindy.  She is one of the people who comes to our Tuesday Night Dinners program at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fulton, NY.  She has been coming every week, 51 weeks a year, for 4 or 5 years.  She finds it important to come for a sense of community. But mostly she comes because hunger never takes a day off.

We are asking you to help us help people like Cindy.

For 8 years, we volunteers of All Saints Episcopal Church, along with volunteers from other churches and organizations, have cooked thousands of meals for people like Cindy and her family.  Every Tuesday night, 50 to 100 people come to the Parish Hall at the church. Some come an hour early to talk and laugh with the friends they’ve made here over the years.

Who are these people?  They are families with small children, retirees, men and women working in low-paying jobs, people with disabilities.  They are, in short, our community.  They share a common trait - money is tight and this weekly get-together helps them and gives them a bit of hope.

At 5:30, volunteers come out of the kitchen with trays of meals, which they serve to each guest.  Each meal is nutritionally balanced.  Community volunteers provide home-baked treats for dessert.  Everyone loves the brownies.

For one day, no one goes home hungry.

Rose has been coming for four or five years.  “I like to come because I like to see people,” she says. “This feeds a lot of people who don’t have much, especially at the end of the month.”

The Tuesday Night Dinners program has largely been funded through grants.  Those grants are gone and won’t be returning. Our small church does what it can, but it cannot support this vital program alone. That’s why we’re reaching out to community-minded people like you, to help keep the meals coming for Rose, Cindy and so many more people in our community.

We can feed a person for about $1.75 a week.  For $7, less than the cost of a meal at a diner, you and we can feed a family of four.

Will you help us?

If you’d like to know more, you can contact Lynn Bullard, the dinner program’s founder, through the contact info on this page.  If you're in the area, we’d also like to invite you to share a meal with us on a Tuesday night.  You’ll have a good meal and will meet people like Tina, who will have the last word:

“We have been coming almost since the dinners started, at least since Christina was a baby.  We like coming because we get a chance to have a family dinner. It helps us with our budget because we live on a fixed income.  It’s nice to have a chance to socialize.”

Can we count on you to help?
