Biology Lab Course in Belize!

Hello! My name is Jessie Barrios and I am a biology student at Providence College in Providence, RI. My college experience has been hard to say the least. I have struggled with the intense science courseload and even considered dropping the major on several different occasions. But somehow, I'm still here and I'm growing to love it a little more each day.
The best thing about any major really, is that once you get past the general requirements your first two years, the classes get more interesting and exciting. This semester, I am taking Tropical Biology. Sounds cool right? Wait, it gets better... The lab portion of it is a trip to Belize!! That's right. For 10 days in April, the class will be led by our professor to explore the rainforests and the second largest barrier reef in the world. From snorkeling amongst sea turtles and exploring underwater caves, to monkey and iguana hiking, I will be learning about and experiencing first hand the biodiversity and ecosystems in the beautiful country of Belize.
As amazing as this sounds, the downside is that there is an out-of-pocket cost for the trip. College tuition is expensive as it is, and you're probably wondering why I would even register for a class that charges extra. It is, after all, only an elective and not required for graduation. But I'm going to be completely honest. I'm a junior in college and several of my friends have studied abroad in countries such as Argentina, Australia, and several others in Europe. They've all come back sharing these amazing stories and experiences, and as happy as I am for them, I can't help but feel a bit envious. I too, itch to leave this campus and apply my knowledge in a unique part of this planet. I also yearn to experience another country's culture.
My friends have all left for entire semesters, I'm asking for you to help me learn abroad for 10 days. I don't know when another opportunity like this one will be available to me. I would emphatically appreciate any and all donations!
Your donation would help me cover:
Round-trip flight, food, lodging, transportation, guides, boats, vaccinations, and activities.
The trip is in April but the school has a payment plan system that I must start paying soon (first deposit is due this Friday the 27th).
