Trip to Azores

Hi Everyone, My name is Kripa Thapa. I am a Junior student majoring in Nursing at UMass Dartmouth, Massachusetts. I was born in Nepal, a naturally and culturally beautiful country in the world. The cultural diversity, simple lifestyle, numerous mountains, and lakes have made Nepal one the tourist country in the world. The country is often known as the birth country of Lord Gautam Buddha and country of the highest peak in the world, ‘The Mount Everest’. When I was growing up in Nepal, I saw problems as Extreme deforestation, air pollution, poor health care and improper management of hazardous waste on water sources. Yearly, it caused thousands of lives. The lack of these basic necessities is still a big problem in many developing countries as Nepal. One of the saddest memories of growing up in Nepal was facing the lack of proper healthcare facilities. Even to this days, many remote parts of Nepal doesn’t have a health clinic and as result people die of even serious illness as fever. It was devastating to see people lacking a basic human right as proper health care system. That’s why I decided and wanted to dedicate my career in nursing and try to do my part in improving the health care system in developing countries. Being a student at UMass, it has come to my attention that I want to be part of something bigger, where I can help people around the world to have a suitable health care and environment to live in. I can say that I am a responsible and hard-working student. Moreover, being a sociable person, I have many friends since I like to communicate with people and I am always ready to learn and explore. My friends compliment me as being a funny, kind and interesting person with a great sense of humor. As soon as I meet new people, I am able to make them comfortable and engage them in the conversation. I believe that friendship is one of the most important relationships in human life. We exchange new ideas, find many interesting things about each other and experience new things together. This summer I and my friends went on a road trip and as we stopped somewhere in the middle of Newyork we saw people were lacking healthcare and proper livable homes. After seeing this, I and my friends were talking about how to help the community and other people who are living in the same situation. As I was doing a research on community health, I found that UMass Dartmouth Nursing program was offering a program to be engaged in global health to improve health in the Azores, Portugal in upcoming spring I believe this is an opportunity for me to learn and help people there. I decided to take this trip and make this trip as a steppingstone for my passion of creating a healthier lifestyle for people. For the trip, I am excited to travel and explore whereas I am facing financially barrier as I am a full-time student. I realized that I am lacking financial stability due to being a full-time student. So, I created go fund me to raise donation for the trip. If you could support my GoFundMe by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, would greatly appreciate it. I understand that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 can helps me get closer to my goal! Let me know if you have any question and I’ll be happy to answer them.
Thank you
