Tribute to Binh Ong

Donation protected
In the midst of my grief, I face the daunting task of crafting a memorial for an extraordinary person, Binh Ong, who passed away unexpectedly on the 21st of May, 2019.  He fought a good fight after suffering extensive head trauma from a car accident last Thanksgiving and unfortunately succumbed to those injuries.

But those of us who loved him, and ache with his passing, know Binh by the other titles he held: Son, Brother, or as he was often known to his friends  as “Bingbong,” or “Chauffeur.”

I, like so many others in Oakland where he grew up, knew him as a classmate, Asian Youth Services Committee Board member, and above all, as a friend.

Binh was a sunny and joyful person who everyone wanted to be around.  He was kind and could make anyone laugh with his wonderful sense of humor.

*smells bacon cooking* “I want some baacccooonnn…” *jumps up and down clapping with his hands excitedly, as if he just won the lottery!!*

His father works extremely hard to support the family which requires him to be away from the family for extended periods of time which forced  Binh to become the family patriarch; the restless altruistic who became the family’s rock.

The family continues to suffer not only from this devastating news, but also the news of their grandmother’s passing less than two days prior, and knowing that they do not have the financial means or ability to make any arrangements while they grieve for their loved ones.

From the bottom of my heart, I humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and if possible in giving (any amount will help).

We thank you for your support.
