Mount Kilimanjaro Trek for Maggie's Lanarkshire

Hi everyone!
My name is Claire, and I am a Registered Nurse working at University Hospital Monklands in NHS Lanarkshire.
According to research, there is a 1 in 2 chance of an individual getting some form of cancer in their lifetime.
As a Nurse, a cancer diagnosis is something I am unfortunately very familiar with, and I understand how difficult and life changing this can be for individuals and their loved ones.
I have decided to challenge myself to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. On the 7th of February 2020, I will be jetting off to Tanzania.
Standing at 5895m above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, and the highest free-standing mountain in the world! I will be taking the Machame route, and hopefully reaching the Uhuru Peak, the highest point, after 6 days of trekking.
I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of Maggie's Lanarkshire to help support the amazing work they do for families in need. For those of you who don't know me, this is completely unfamiliar territory, I am in no way an experienced walker. This will be a massive challenge to prepare myself, no more pizzas and certainly need to get to the gym!
Maggie's Centres provide support and advice for people with a cancer diagnosis, while also offering support to the individuals' family and friends. This is done by offering several different workshops and groups, while also offering one to one support, all of which are free to attend.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good adventure, and what's better than challenging myself for such a great cause!
The normal funding arrangements for larger charities would be that they would initially provide the funding for the trip, and thereafter the money raised would be provided back to them to cover the trip cost, any excess raised beyond that goes to the charity.
However, after discussion with Maggie's Lanarkshire they do not have funds in their budget to pay the trip cost, therefore, I have self-funded this trip. The money raised will be donated in full to Maggie's Lanarkshire so they can continue to provide their priceless services.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated, and I'll keep you all up to date with the journey.
