Travis Bedard's Medical Bills Fund
As you may know, Travis had a heart attack on Wednesday, November 23. He remains in the cardiac ICU at the University of Minnesota and while he is expected to make a full recovery, the hospital and rehab bills will be enormous.
Any financial support you are able to give Travis and Megan will be greatly appreciated in more ways than you can possibly imagine.
Thank you so very, very much for your help. Please visit Travis's CaringBridge page for updates.
Hi everyone - Just a quick update on how things are going.
We paid off the first round of bills thanks to y'all - that was the Saint Paul Fire Dept, Univ. Anesthesia Providers, and the first UMP bill. None of those guys would negotiate or take payments or anything (well, some would do payments but they wanted it paid off in like 6 months which wasn't what I meant), so I just took care of them. THANK YOU.
As it stands now we are facing the hospital bill which after discounts and everything is going to be about $153,237. I don't think there's anyone on the planet who is going to write us a check large enough to make a dent in that. We are hoping to work on a payment plan with the hospital and we have a max amount that we can pay each month, and hopefully that will be enough for them. I (Megan) also have, unfortunately, a ton of credit card debt. Our plan is to continue aggressively paying off the credit cards like we were before this happened, and then after about 2 years, add the credit card monthly payments to the hospital monthly payments.
Right now we are good. There is NO dire financial need, I think we've come to a place where we're ok and we have a plan moving forward. It even involves occasionally doing fun things. I know that can change and maybe I should keep my mouth shut, but right now, things look ok.
We had ZERO expectations that anyone would do something like this for us, and never expected that this much would be raised. We certainly don't expect any more, but, we just wanted people to know how things are. We also want people to know that any help we receive moving forward will probably be put towards credit card debt so that we can get rid of that faster, barring any further surprises.
We are so unbelievably grateful to everyone for everything you've done. And at some point soon I'm going to be writing a blog post that really details what happened financially, because it was truly one of those "we are insanely privileged and lucky and we were STILL fucked, so don't think this can't happen to you" moments. But we are here, we're healthy and we aren't panicking thanks to you. I hope you're all having as great a new year as we are. Maybe I'll win Book of Phi ( https://bookofphi.com/) this year. That's going to be some serious money.
To everyone who contributed so generously,
I don't really know how to thank you, but thank you. We just paid off the first round of hospital bills using the money you donated and we wouldn't have been able to do that without you. I couldn't believe how quickly this was shared and how quickly it reached its goal - it made me realize just how blessed we are to have close friends all over the country. You're all amazing and we love you. Travis is home now and back to his usual self, just in time for Christmas.
