Travel and Treatment for Clifford Shaw

Let me start by saying that this is an unauthorized action.  Dad has always been great at giving help  but not quite as good at receiving it.  Also, this is a very condensed, cooperative account of what has been happening.    This last March, Dad announced to us he was again diagnosed with cancer.  As we sat around the table and he told us this, he also told us he had decided against chemotherapy and would  be exploring alternative treatments.  The Dr had given Dad three months to live, but they could start chemo right away and he might live six, possibly nine months.      When Dad told the Dr that he wasn't  taking chemo the Dr told him he needed to be in hospice and that he  would have a couple of the hospice places get in touch with him.     As I began doing a lot of online research, Dad did what he does and started making calls and asking questions.  We found a few options, ranging from superdoses of vitamin C, to mistletoe treatment and others.   One of the things that kept recurring in my research was what is called Hyperthermic Treatment. It's something that isn't offered in the U.S. but has been quite successful in Europe. I talked about this with Dad and it was something he expressed some interest in. I began communications with a couple clinics and was able to get more information on treatment offered, length of treatment, cost, etc.      While I was doing this, Dad was talking to a lot of people and eventually discovered an alternative treatment clinic in Coeur d'Alene, ID and decided to start treatment there. He and Mom been going there for 2-3 days almost every week since. Dad has been happy with the treatment and credits that as the only thing that has kept him alive this far.  This hasn't been a cheap process and unfortunately as an alternative treatment, this is something that isn't covered by insurance.     Recently we have decided to revisit the hyperthermic treatment and Dad has been communicating with them and has been accepted as a patient.    Right now we are planning on leaving around the first of the year.  I have been looking at airline tickets and since we are getting them on such short notice they are quite pricey and this is compounded by the fact that it is Christmas week.    The reason we are setting this page up is to raise money for the flights and also to offset the price of treatment, which again, as an alternative treatment, is not covered by insurance. This is a matter of some urgency since we will be leaving within the next 2 weeks.    If anyone has questions about hyperthermic treatment, please let me know.  I will try to get an information pack together as soon as I get a chance.       We appreciate each of you and ask you all to keep Dad in your prayers. Thank you very much,                                     David Other questions David Shaw [phone redacted] Eldon Shaw [phone redacted]
