Trauma Treatment -Spanish speakers

I am a Spanish-speaking therapist with years of experience working in Central America with survivors of violence, abuse, and trauma. I opened a small private practice in Louisville KY in late 2016, in order to serve an underserved population, Spanish-speakers.

I have been trained in EMDR, a very effective model for the treatment of PTSD and other types of trauma, and I have found in the last 6 months that there are many, many people who would benefit from high quality treatment with an experienced, culturally competent Spanish-speaking therapist. The local public community mental health agencies do not have enough funding or therapists to effectively treat this population.

One main reason that many do not seek out treatment is because they cannot afford it, or they drop out of treatment before completing it for the same reasons. I use donated office space, and ask folks to pay what they can, as they can, but since this is my primary job, a "vocation" one might say, this is not a sustainable model for me at the present time, even while using donated space. I want to be as generous as I can with my time and talents, and ask the wider community to be generous by supporting this important service to the underserved.

Mental health treatment, especially for trauma, should never be a "luxury" available only to those who can afford it. By donating to this campaign, you are helping me to continue to provide services to any and all Spanish-speakers who ask. My goal is this, to utilize these donations to subsidize the treatment that I provide, thus allowing my work to continue regardless of a client´s ability to pay.  Treatment costs by similarly qualified professionals in the field cost between $80-$150 per hour. For those who work for modest wages, this is impossible. During this campaign, every $50 will become one treatment session for a person in need.
