Trans Clothing Closet CSRA

Hi everyone! I'm Lorelei Tucker, a trans woman that does work with the local LGBTQ community when I'm not working in the lab.

My friends and I are starting up a local trans clothing closet for the Augusta area, wherein people can donate old clothes, and local transgender people can come and find gender affirming clothing for free in a safe environment free of judgement. Remaking your entire wardrobe to match your identity or changing body can cost a lot of money, which is something that we think this project can help with. Once we get it set up, we will do regular pop-up events to give the clothing back to the community.
We are already collaborating on this project with several local LGBTQ+ organizations, and despite the tremendous support, we are still lacking some key resources. For one, we need a dedicated storage space (that isn’t in the trunk of my car or the corner of my room, lol). As well, we need storage items that can maximize the utility of said space. We’re thinking vacuum storage bags and plastic tubs. We’ll need to launder everything that comes in, and then, finally, we’ll need clothing racks, hangers, and perhaps some inexpensive mirrors and curtains to set up makeshift changing rooms.

To summarize, we are asking for money to purchase the following (or just donating it if you have them):
- vacuum storage bags and plastic storage containers
- a storage space
- Clothing racks, hangers, curtains, and (maybe) mirrors
- Money for outreach and refreshments for volunteers or those coming to pick up clothing

Also, although this project's been up for 5 months, I'm only now (5/24) opening it for donations. Grad school was wild, lol, but now I have the time and energy to make this happen. Let's go!
