My name is Renay and I'd like to go to Camp Wellstone.
Wellstone is a political training program that trains people in progressive political skills so they can make changes in their communities by running for office, running campaigns, or creating grassroots community efforts. You can learn more about Camp Wellstone at the program website.
When I was exiting high school, I almost went into politics. I attended Girls State, and was preparing to major in political science. Unfortunately, a lack of mentors and a support network for the type of progressive kid I was in rural Arkansas wasn't available, and I ended up on a different path. But I would love the chance to go and learn from the people I can be confident are progressive and believe in the same types of political, social, and economic changes I do. I want to learn from the best, and Wellstone is incredibly well-respected.
I've been accepted for the March training on the Campaign track in Dallas (YES!), but I need help to get there! I was lucky enough to have a sponsor for my registration fee, but I still need help with travel and hotel costs, which are out of my reach. I'm always nervous about asking for money/help, but I truly believe this training could change my life and help me become a force for progressive change in any community I live in for the rest of my life. As we've learned the last two years, if we don't advocate for progressive policies and people in our own communities, we pay the price on the national level. Additionally, any causes we champion create small, concentric ripples around us, and influence people and situations we may never even know. So I'm asking very humbly for your help so I can toss myself into the pool of progressive political training to gain the tools I need to help change the world.

ETA: Folks have been asking for deadlines! Sorry I forgot to include them (I was excited). I have to get plane and hotel tickets in time to attend, so March 15th is probably my hard deadline for those to stay on my budget. I will leave the campaign open until March 22nd for everything else, which is the day before I'm scheduled to leave. ❤️
