The Australian Mens' Deaf Basketball Team, known as "The Goannas", are now in preparation for the Asia Pacific Deaf Games. These games are being held in Taiwan from the 3rd of October.
Unfortunately, there is no government or sports association funding available. The cost of participation must be borne by players and coaching staff. We need your help to get us there and pull on the Green and Gold and represent our country.
To get to the Asia Pacific Deaf Games, each athlete needs to again raise in excess of $5,000! So every bit helps.
In the lead up to these games, the Goannas members are also required to cover the costs of training camps, including travel. For some some athletes this means travelling half the country just to attend. The athletes' commitment to the team is clearly evident and has been for many years despite the financial hardships that they have been through. These athletes have forked out their personal finances to cover their recent trip to World Deaf Basketball Championships and are looking for financial aid for it to be possible for them to attend the Asia Pacific Deaf Games.
Any financial help or in-kind donations are greatly appreciated and we acknowledge that we wouldn't be where we are without your help.
Our goal for the Asia Pacific Deaf Games is nothing less than the Gold medal, so with your support we should have some shiny jewellery to share with you all.
