TOTO Fighting for her life

Toto is my four year old female Cairn Terrier. I've had her since she was a puppy and we are very bonded. Toto has the typical Cairn Terrier personality, to serve and protect! Since Toto and I moved in with my 80 year old mom in Hueneme Bay, Toto has been demonstrating her 'guard dog' personality by consistently letting us know there's someone on our porch......she seems to take great pride in her work to protect us! Last Monday I was in the back of our house when I heard Toto barking ferociously at the front door. I made the mistake of opening the door to see what she was barking at and she ran out of the house directly into the street and got hit by a car. We have lived with Mom for 10 months and Toto has never ran into the street like that. As it turns out, there were men working on the roofs across the street that got her all wound up. I yelled for her to stop then heard the impact. I retreated back into my house hysterically sobbing to my mother about what just happened to Toto. I could not bare to go see her dead on the street and I was pleading with my mom to go out and get her. Within about two minutes, Toto amazingly walked back into the house! She was looking at me and my mom and I will never forget the look on her face! Her expression was as if she was saying: It's all good, I handled it, you're safe. Then, she collapsed. Toto ended up at the Ventura pet emergency hospital, VMSG where she was diagnosed with massive internal injuries including a huge hernia of her digestive organs, broken ribs, broken pelvis, and sections of her colon and intestine were already necrotic and had to be removed. She also sustained neurological damage to the right side of her head from the major blunt force and may never be able to close her right eye again. I agreed to the surgery to repair the hernia and any other injury found during this surgery. She made it through the surgery and her post op critical care with a $11,370 bill. I brought her home three days ago and she wasn't recovering well, not eating and I couldn't get the ten medication pills in her system. So, little mighty Mo Toto is back in the hospital to have another surgery today. After the doctor told me that her internal organs broke through the internal incision area including her bladder and that this additional surgery would cost $10,000... I very sadly and reluctantly said: "Put her down". I told the doctor I didn't have the money for all these surgeries and medical care. The doctor talked to the VMSG corporate office and they agreed to do the second surgery and critical care with a cap of $3 000 instead of 10 ,000. I agreed to this to help save Totos life
I am seeking donations to help pay for Totos surgeries and care. I did not have pet insurance or money saved. It's just Toto and me living with my 80 year old mother. I've been looking for employment after losing the teaching job I had working for my SISTER who died from brain cancer a year ago. I've applied for more jobs in the past 6 months than I have in my entire life. I would be so very grateful for any amount anyone can donate to help pay Totos bills. THANK YOU

i am so, so very excited to announce that Toto's right ear is showing some movement!! It's very slight but it is moving! The doctor's said she would never be able to move her ear again or close her right eyelid due to nerve tissue damage. I never accepted this prognosis and remained hopeful the doctors were wrong!! I just started seeing her ear move slightly over the past few days and I was ecstatic, as was my MOM! I am not sure about her eyelid because with her black hair hanging over the eye area and that Toto seems to exist in an 'all alerts status' // watch dog, one can not sneak up on her to evaluate the eye...lol By the time I get within one foot of her, both of her eyes are wide open anyway! I will have to develop another strategy to investigate her eye but in the meantime, we are very joyful that Toto continues to make improvements. She has demonstrated a new//post accident behavior of just plopping down on the sidewalk or even in the middle of crossing a street and refusing to get up! I have to pick her up and carry her to a safe place and encourage her to keep walking. Toto use to love to walk and hike and she does not seem to be in any pain so I am not certain what is causing this new behavior. Over the past month or so, I have connected with many new Cairn Terrier websites or with new Cairn Terrier owners so I am hoping to reach out to them to see if anyone is able to make a donation toward Toto's medical bills.
she left the hospital with bills totaling $15,000 for two surgeries and medical treatment that saved her life. I did raise $3,595 of the $15,000 and I am extremely grateful for that Without these surgeries, Toto would be at Rainbow Bridge. This little girl is truly a miracle. She survived being struck by a vehicle traveling about 45 miles per hour! Every five dollars, ten dollars, any dollars helps get her bills paid. Thank you for all your love and support.

Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting an update for Toto sooner, but I've been incredibly swamped with working 12 hour shifts and school. Anyway, Toto is doing miraculously well!! My mom and I can not believe she's even jumping up onto my bed which is extraordinarily high!! I thought she would never be able to do this again. She's so awesome!!! She napped fully on her back just the other day, my mom and I couldn't believe it. We figured she no longer got into this adorable position due to strain and pressure from her abdominal injuries, but she's doing it!! Now if we can just get her right ear moving again, that would be so awesome. Her hair is slowly growing back and her appetite is ferocious. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT

Just wanted to let everyone know that Toto is making good progress! She's able to walk much better but she's not able to walk the distances she use to.......YET. During our walks, she will let me know she needs to rest and simply plop down and refuse to budge! Oh what stubborn little Cairn's they are!! When we walk our usual route, (as before her accident) I am still carrying her home over the last part

Hi, Lela, Poppy had only ONE girl puppy this time - her record is 4 pups, then 2 pups, now 1 pup. I think she may not be genetically matched with our Checkov so she is not staying here after her pup is weaned. She is a lovely dog and will find a good home. My address is 1220 Hood ST SE, Albany OR 97322 - and we happily contributed to Toto's medical bills, and hope she is getting better all the time.
