Every single year, thousands of people around the world receive news similar to this from their doctors. Seventeen years ago, my grandpa was one of these patients. He didn't live 2-5 years though... He passed away after a brief, nine-month fight with ALS. While it was tough to watch my grandpa lose the ability to use his muscles, struggle with simple, every-day tasks, and eventually succomb to such a debilitating disease, it sparked a desire inside me and made me want to help families in similar situations.
My name is Jesse Haws, and I'm the president of a non-profit organization called Tossin' Away ALS. This year, our annual cornhole tournament/fundraising event takes place on Saturday, November 18th in Chandler, Arizona. This wonderful, family-friendly event gives people the opportunity to have fun, learn about ALS, and support a great cause all at the same time!
Money raised will help ease the emotional burdens families face as they battle ALS. We help families create memories before a loved one passes away. We give them a dose of positivity during a very difficult period of life. Whether it's a family dinner, a night out at the ballpark, or a simple family vacation, our goal is to help them forget about ALS for a few hours and enjoy the life they still have!
