A Photography Exhibition on Torquay High Street

Myself and the South West Collective of Photography have been offered the fantastic opportunity through the Artizan Collective, to turn their pop up venue located on Torquay High street, into a fully operational public photography exhibition for a duration of 4 weeks beginning in early February 2020. We open our doors on Sunday the 9th and close on Wednesday the 26th of February.
This will be a first in Torbay with regards to photography, while hopefully being the start of something fantastic within the local community. Our exhibition aims to engage with a wide range of demographics within the community, as well as promote arts and culture in the beautiful English Riviera, something that is severely underrepresented in the local area.
The theme is “Visual Story Telling”, our aim of the exhibition is to showcase the engaging, and gripping stories between each artist’s photographs. We want the exhibition to have as much community engagement as possible and will seek to be holding workshops, talks and visits from local schools, as well as working with local businesses and organisations to try and get the public engaged with photography and our exhibition. We are hoping to run a series of events and talks from local historians and lecturers which will educate students and the public on the selected works.
We have a team of four main artists exhibiting. There work will be used as part of the educational programme for the exhibition. Alongside them, we will showcase four to five other artists who will be selected through the current call for submissions.
However, with all good things, comes its difficulties. The South West Collective was formed in July 2018 and began trading in September, at present the business is self-sufficient but unfortunately is not in a financial situation to support such an ambitious task which is why I'm personally raising funds.
This opportunity will not only promote arts and culture in Torbay, but this exhibition aims to bring businesses and creators together to recognise the hidden talent in the South West, which is often overlooked in the creative industry. All funds raised will directly go towards the accessibility and running of this exhibition to make sure it can be open to the public.
These costs cover insurance, electricity, talks from visiting speakers etc.
Once again I cannot stress how important this is for photography and creative culture in the South West. This is just one tiny step towards a much larger picture and only with this financial support can these activities go ahead.
Everyone who donates will be invited to a private viewing and will be able to meet myself and the artists.
