Tony's Story

I can't tell you I knew when Tony my eldest son began to feel different, I was made aware he had attempted to take his life in February 2013. I talked to him in depth but he had closed down and said he didn't mean it. Money troubles were too much. Over the next year it became apparent that Matthew my younger son and Tonys brother was too having problems with his mental health also 2013. He attempted to jump from a multi story building. He was admitted to hospital and placed on a section for his own safety. Tony appeared strong and supportive of his younger brother. 3 months past and Matthew was allowed home for a visit and just then and there it all went badly wrong. Matthew never returned to hospital and 9 days after leaving hospital he succeeded in taking his life February 2014. Our family were devastated and Tony for one took this news very badly. He felt he had failed his baby brother and so the illness set in. Tony himself asked for help for his own and others safety he knew he was ill and had 2 admissions in to Swallow nest psychiatric unit. There he received fantastic help and support so much so Tony presented as much better within months. He met a wonderful girl Sarah and he appeared happier that I have ever seen him. A year went by and we were overjoyed at the news of a baby girl, he was now a Daddy and appeared over the moon. They named their daughter Mattie after her uncle Matthew. But within 10 months cracks began to appear he could not bring himself to say her name but everything about him appeared fine. He complained of being tired all the time, he worked full time and had a young baby in the house. He drank alcohol a little more than usual...... He mentions suicidal thoughts and promises to seek help but tragically never made it to the doctors within days he was gone February 2017. A loving son daddy and partner to Sarah gone in a moment. Our lives shattered. Both my boys fell victim to mental illness and only in hindsight can you see what unfolded in previous few weeks.

Tony was an incredible person the biggest personality anyone could ever meet. So popular and loved by so many. A true loyal friend

We are seeking to raise these funds in order to further raise awareness in mental health.

Please help us to end this stigma
