Tommy the seizure/service dog
Donation protected
My name is Sarena. I am 30 years old, and was a writer and violinist with a large interest in acro yoga, aerial silks, and hoop dance until my seizures and other conditions became too severe. I currently live in assisted living.
I have lost my job, hobbies, and my sense of independence.
Tommy is a golden retreiver who will be my service/seizure response dog.
He will be spending the remaining ~5 months in extensive training learning how to open/close doors, pull a wheelchair, assist with balance, flashbacks, and seizures, retrieve dropped objects, and more. He will also spend hours in public learning the required manners expected by service dogs.
My mini-goal for August 2016 is $295.
My disabilities
Seizures
Migraines
Tourette Syndrome
Schizoaffective Disorder depressive type
How Tommy will help me:
00. Tommy will respond to seizures.
01. He will place his body between me and the wall or floor while I am seizing, may be able to roll me on my side.
02. He will lick away drool, froth, spit, or vomit from my mouth, preventing choking.
03. He can use a special device to summon 911, or caretaker and let EMS or a caretaker in my house if I'm unresponsive.
04. Tommy can bring me emergency medication, water, and cellphone after an episode.
05. Can help me sit up, then stand after episode.
06. Can help at grocery store, carry some grocery bags, unload some groceries.
07. Pick up things I drop
08. Help me differentiate between something real and a hallucination.
09. Help me through dissociation, panic, or anxiety attacks, help with flashbacks, disorientation, and confusion, as well as depressive episodes.
10. May replace my need for a cane and will be able to pull my wheelchair.
Tommy will be essential in my regaining a sense of independence and perhaps even reentering the workforce. Please help me reach my goal of ten thousand for Tommy the Seizure/Service dog.
