Tommie DeSantis is a 5 year old little girl whose energy, sweetness, and silliness bring joy and light to everyone she meets. On December 9th, 2018, her family's world was shattered. She was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of pediatric cancer.
There is no question in our minds that Tommie is tough and she will beat this with a vengeance.
For almost a year now, Tommie and her family have endured what no family should ever endure. They made a decision early on in treatment for most of her care to take place and be managed by the world renowned oncologists and surgeons at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NYC, who have truly given this family so much to be thankful for. So far Tommie has kicked butt through 7 rounds of chemotherapy (split between Pittsburgh and NYC), 2 long and grueling surgeries and recovery periods, and a lot of medical trials and tribulations a long the way. Displacing their family to and from NYC has been difficult and financially stressful, so we continue to promote this page for the DeSantis family to allow them to focus on what's most important at this time--supporting Tommie and being together as a family, not having to worry about anything else.
Tommie will continue to fight and beat this monster with the resilience and strength of her 5 year old little self, but they also need the love and support of their community to win this fight with ease. She is about to start her next phase of treatment which consists of one round of radiation and multiple rounds of antibody therapy—all to take place at MSK and over the next several months.
