Tom's Bristol 10k Challenge
In May I'll be taking part in the Bristol 10k - a 10,000 meter race around Bristol. Gulp!
Over the past 12 months, I have lost over 9 stone (for the non-Imperialists this is 130 lbs or 60kg) so I can be fit enough to run the whole course. During this period, my tracker tells me I have taken 8,000,000 steps, which is the distance from Bristol to Tanzania, this is a serendipitious coincidence as I am raising money for three causes in that country:
Firstly - There is an exceptional young man called Frank who is coming up to his second year at University in Dar es Salaam. Despite having his tuition covered by a much sought-after government scholarship, he needs a room, food and books, all of which comes to around £800 for the year. I have some small funds in place, but there is still a big deficit to be filled.
Secondly - I'd love to provide musical instruments for two choirs. In Tanzania, choirs are at the heart of the communities. I have had requests over many years for keyboards, guitars and drums, so that the choirs can raise their game and perform to an even higher standard.
Thirdly - There is always much need for food, iron sheeting for the roofs, cement to strengthen houses and medicine for the sick. So I'd wish to use part of any money raised to cover these needs.
I have been visiting Buigiri village in Central Tanzania for 17 years now and I try and help the people in as many ways as possible, which I document on my website: www.tomintanzania.com
This is the first time I have asked for sponsorship for completing a challenge - and what a challenge it has been to get to this stage.
If you wish to help and can only use paypal, then my account is email@example.com (Although please watch the unusual spelling of my name, it has caught people out before).
Thank you for reading all of this, and please please consider getting involved.
