A Vintage Farm Wagon for the Hull House

The Hull House Foundation operates the Hull Family Home & Farmstead, which was the home of Revolutionary War Veteran Warren Hull and is now the oldest extant stone dwelling in Erie County, New York – dating to the first decade of the 1800's. The Foundation now has the unique opportunity to purchase a mid-1800's vintage "Schuttler Wagon", named for the Chicago-based Peter Schuttler Wagon Company. Schuttler was one of the leading wagon makers in the country, and it can be said that his wagons helped build the United States. From use on farms and ranches to freighting on the plains and hauling ore from western mines, Schuttler’s durability, craftsmanship, and attention to detail earned the company the pinnacle of brand loyalty and a highly enviable reputation during its eighty-plus years in Chicago.
It cannot be determined exactly what brand of wagon the Hull family would have used on their farm, but this original Schuttler wagon is a prime example of the type of wagon that would have toiled on the Hull farm during the early 1800's. It is in excellent condition and once on site will allow us to present a more complete story about farm life in early1800's Western New York.
