Tom J. Higgins final expenses

Let me tell you about the man. Tom "Mot" as known to most of us. See Tom had Dyslexia and wrote his name in reverse. Tom was fast with a "HAY HOW R YA" he never met a stranger. If you didn't like Tom it's because you didn't know him.

Tom loved his kids and grandkids with a passion unsurpassed by any. All children gave him a spark.

Tom could build anything with is hands. Houses, swimming pools, Highway bridges, wheelchair ramps and steps.

Tom along his friends and family took a church that had long since been closed, worked to clean it up make things work that should never have worked again. Found pastors to preach at this 'come as you are' church. This church is alive today in a big part because of Tom.

This week I heard so many stories of the deeds Tom has done just as a kindness. Fixing hand rails, hot water heaters, broken steps and many other things for nothing more than a smile or a cup of coffee.

At the church where Tom worked so hard to fix up, he stood at the door every Sunday and Wednesday to shake the hand of everyone that came through the door. With a big "Welcome to Old Salem Baptist Church".

I want to say (knowing pride is a sin) I am proud of TomTom.

Tom became a volunteer fire fighter at a young age. Starting at Fairdealing then many others in Marshall County and Calloway County fire departments.

To sum this up Tom thought of others before himself.

Tom lost his best friend when we were still young and now lies just a few yards away from him 38 year later. Tom died on the same day as his oldest daughter Felixia many years later and laid to rest Christy also. No father should have to bury their own.

Tom had recently gone through a divorce. On that we will not say more than it caused him great pain. The strain was more the Tom could bear.

Tom had so very little because he was a simple man, not needing much. The main things that concerned him was things he had that belong to others. He wanted so much to get back to them.

Tom left us on the 20th of February 2019 with more questions than can ever be answered.

Tom did not have insurance and has left some outstanding bills plus his burial expenses. We are asking for help to put Tom's legacy to rest clean.

Tom has some legal fees accrued by one of his sons. Tom's dad took out a loan to help with the promise that Tom and his wife would pay the loan.
Then there is Tom's burial expenses.

Once the amount for Tom's expenses is reached we will close this memorial.

Thank you,
Family of Thomas J. (Tom) Higgins
