Together for Tyler

There are wrestlers that meet big challenges both on and off the mat.  Ben Naddy, is one such wrestler.

Ben is a wrestler for the OTC Bulldogs in the communities of Henning, Battle Lake and Underwood. Ben is a 3 time state entrant, 2 time place winner and is currently ranked 2nd in class A at 113 pounds. His older brother, Sam, was a 2 time state entrant and 1 time place winner. Their family has been part of the wrestling community for many years and are big supporters of wrestling. Ben and Sam have 2 brothers who were born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and have struggled with this disease their whole lives. Both brothers are fulltime in wheelchairs and rely on their family for many of their daily tasks.

On Jan. 1st, their oldest brother, Tyler, who is 22 was airlifted to Gillette Hospital in St. Paul in an unresponsive state due to complications of his muscular dystrophy. He has been hospitalized since that time and has since had surgery to place a tracheotomy and a ventilator to enable him to breathe. He will continue to gain strength at Gillette and will hopefully be able to come home sometime within the next month.

Along with the emotional stress, this has also been a huge financial strain on their family.   Neither parent has been able to work, as one parent is at the hospital with Tyler while the other parent is at home caring for their other 4 boys; including their youngest son who also has muscular dystrophy.  In addition to their loss of income, there are also added costs of transportation to and from the hospital, meals, etc.

The Naddy's are a wonderful family and have supported MSHSL wrestling for numerous years. When either mom or dad are home from the hospital, they are running to Ben's wrestling matches to support him in his Senior year. Ben has a very good chance to go to state again this year, and his family will be there to support him as much as they are able.

As a friend of the Naddy's, I am reaching out to the larger wrestling community because I have always felt that being a part of wrestling is like being a part of one big, wonderful family.  With the many struggles of this year, the Naddy's certainly could benefit from the support of the larger wrestling community.  If you are able, please consider a donation to this amazing family.  If you are not able to donate, please share this link so we can reach lots of people.  Thank you so much for any support you can give.
