Todd is one of the most genuine guys I know. He and his wife Lori always make you feel at ease, and at home. Our family has become good friends with theirs, and when Todd found out about some serious medical issues, I had to try to help.
Todd has always had high blood pressure that is unresponsive to medications, but no one could figure out why... until recently. He has a severe coarcation of his heart's aorta. To make matters worse, Todd has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and a brain aneurism.
Todd's aortic coarcation requires heart surgery, and soon. And he may need brain surgery for his aneurism as well.
Todd and Lori are leaving five of their six children behind to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to meet Todd's surgical team on August 9. Travel expenses, lodging, childcare, food, copays, and time off work will cause major financial challenges for this sweet family. Please help in any way you can, and above all, please pray for Todd, Lori, their children, and the surgeons. Thank you so much!

Hello friends!
Another update from the Meyer Family:

“It is 7 weeks post surgery, and recovery is still underway.

Todd can get around freely, do small tasks, and stay awake most of the day, but is still on strong pain medications and extremely restricted on weight limitations.

At six weeks post op, Todd was going to begin cardiovascular rehabilitation and start treatment for his recently diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis. However, increasing pain, followed by an ultrasound, showed that he had developed pericarditis and some puddling fluid around the heart, creating pressure, at some point that week. He was prescribed a super steroid and some other medications to target inflammation, as well as instructions to postpone rehab and rest more diligently. This was quite discouraging and we really had to accept that recovery would be taking longer than originally expected.

With this new information and diagnosis, the neurologist has decided to revisit MS treatment possibilities in 6 months or so, once cardio issues are stable and he is back to %100 physically.

With this setback in progress, we are again amazed by our community support. Many families have contributed to stocking our freezer, helping us cook & clean, transporting children, praying for us, sending cards, babysitting, doing yard work (including fence repairs and gutter cleaning!), and just hanging out keeping us company as we "wait" on progressing improvements.

Next appointment is with the cardiologist on Nov 22nd, where they will discuss status updates and return to work conditions/timelines. We are hopeful Todd will be able to return to work by Thanksgiving, or at the very latest, before Christmas!

Again, we are appreciative, humbled, grateful and thankful, for every single person who has said a prayer or has supported our family in any way. This has been more of a struggle than we could have imagined, but we as a family have grown much closer and stronger together along with our love and faith. We can't wait to be on the "other" side of this and be able to give back to others the way we have been given!! Blessings!!”

❤️Another update from Lori:

“Today is so much better than all the days so far!!

Only 5 days post heart surgery (sternotomy and aortic bypass!) and Todd is totally disconnected from all tubes, lines, catheters, and pacers!!

On the agenda today is physical therapy, occupational therapy, one last ct scan, and discharge papers!!!

We have the hotel reserved on the hospital campus still, so will be staying there tonight for sure- don't want to do too much in one day, and the 5 hr drive home will likely exhaust him just by itself! Let's not push our luck with his amazing recovery, right?! ❤️
We have so appreciated all your prayers, messages, help with the kids and home, and just general kindness that everyone has bestowed upon us!!!

This whole process was long and unnerving, but the hard part is over, and now it's time to head home, recover, get in daily walks, and watch ALL the baseball ”
