THE TOBERMORY SKATEPARK PROJECT
We are raising money and support for a new Tobermory Multi-Use Skatepark to be located at the MEETING PLACE grounds in Tobermory Ontario. The park with be a part of a mulit use recreational area which will include The Community Gardens, The new Off Leash Dog Park, Fitness Trails & Equipment and the Farmers Market, along with all the other activities that currently go on at the Meeting Place.

Providing safe and active spaces is seen as a core component of healthy development of local youth.
Skateboarding / Ramp Sports are Here to Stay – these sports have demonstrated sustained longevity and have become a mainstream pursuit among youth and young adults.

WHAT IS OUR UNDERLYING PHILOSOPHIES / VALUES?
• ACTIVE place for children and youth
• Fits with the ‘active’ community lifestyle of Tobermory
• An ‘opportunity’ for young people; keeping youth interested in their community and staying in their community
• A social, spontaneous, non structured space to ‘play’
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS TO BEGIN WITH?
• For kids and youth – an opportunity; a choice
• Also for the whole community and tourists
• Family friendly
• Building a future – part of building regenerative Tobermory
• Increasing the appeal of Tobermory to families with children
• Its part of our future
WHO IS THIS FOR?
• Anyone who rides a bike, has a skateboard, roller blades, draws a hop scotch, trys something different, enjoys watching kids have fun; owns a ball!
• “No age” focus is most inclusive
WHAT IS IT GOING TO DO FOR YOUTH NOW AND IN THE FUTURE TO ENRICH THEIR LIVES?
• Makes youth feel part of the community
• Promotes an active outdoor lifestyle
• Promotes civic benefit
• Gives youth choices
• Increases appeal to raising families
