Helping Heather

Heather Green has been an amazing friend to so many of us, and now she needs our help.

For the past week, Heather has been struggling with a serious eye infection that's caused her severe pain and visual impairment. Her doctors now believe it's the result of a rare and dangerous parasite called acanthamoeba, which she likely contracted by rinsing her contact lens in tap water. (PSA: Don't ever rinse your contacts in tap water, even if your doctor tells you it's ok!)

Heather is getting excellent care and will be undergoing aggressive treatment -- but recovery will take time. She's currently unable to work, is out of paid time off, and will not have access to paid medical leave for several weeks. Treatment is expensive, with one medication having to be made specifically for her and another having to be shipped from overseas.
