MAURICE S. HARRIS was walking with his children on the grounds of of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa was struck and killed by a pickup truck Saturday, officials say.
Maurice Savalas Harris, 40, died after he was pinned beneath the truck outside of the hospital’s Medical Arts Building, Tampa police officials said. The two children who were with him were not injured.
About 12:48 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, an eastbound black 2012 GMC pickup truck driven by Bryce O’Neill collided with another eastbound vehicle, a silver 2000 Ford minivan driven by Toshia McPherson, on West Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near Habana Avenue, according a Tampa Police spokesman.
The impact of the collision sent both vehicles over the median. The pickup truck continued over the curb and onto the grounds of St. Joseph’s Hospital. The pickup struck a large sign then continued into the driveway in front of the Medical Arts Building, where the victim was walking with his two children, Tampa police say.The truck came to rest against the south wall of the Medical Arts Building.
Harris died as a result of his injuries.
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are investigating what caused O’Neil’s vehicle to leave the roadway.
