On March 1, 2018, I received a message from Teri with grave news; the love of her life, partner in forever, and father of her precious twin boys suffered what is known as a widow maker heart attack. As details came in regarding Tim's overall heart health, I knew Teri and her family were in for a bumpy road with hospitals, surgeries, and extensive recoveries. I reached out and asked what I could do for her family, even suggesting launching a campaign to assist with unrelenting medical expenses ahead. Teri, in all of her wisdon, strength, and determination asked me to wait as she was ready to take on any freelance gig she could to supplement their needs. I admired her tenacity as I followed Tim's health updates closely.
This week, Tim had a busy schedule between appointments and cardiac rehab. I made time to listen to my friend recount their visits, doctor concerns, and his remission to the hospital that gave their family more time together to create memories and say "I love you." As Teri and I spoke before I headed into work on March 29, 2018, I knew the tests ahead would change their lives; only I never imagined what would come just hours later.
A woman I have come to love as a sister called in an attempt to grasp what happened in a matter of moments...
Her love, her partner, her forever - gone. The father of her children - gone.
Their tomorrows filled with laughter, love, and all the experiences they planned to share - gone.
"I'm a widow," squeaked from her normally commanding voice, "the boys have lost their father." Tears filled my eyes as I tried to be strong for her, knowing their future is forever changed.
Today, Teri and the boys need all of our help, support, and love to wrap around them and fill the gaping hole in their lives. Time and financial support will be the beginning of their healing.
