Tim Casey's Cancer Care Fund

Detective Tim Casey of the Dallas Police Department is many things: a father, a friend, a son, and a brother.
Most importantly, Tim is a fighter. As a 21-year veteran with the Dallas Police Department, he is used to fighting every day for the safety of Dallas residents.  In August 2012 however, Tim found himself in a fight he never saw coming—Stage II metastatic colon cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation to shrink his tumor and subsequent surgery to remove it, Tim’s cancer was officially in remission by December 2012.
Less than a year later, August 2013, Tim’s cancer returned. His oncologist found a metastatic lesion on his liver, which was removed laparoscopically after chemotherapy failed to shrink it. He was now fighting stage IV cancer.  Over the next two years, doctors would find more tumors in his liver and lungs. They were able to eradicate most of these tumors, but two lesions in his right lung persisted. Consequently, Tim’s oncologist referred him to Mary Crowley Cancer Research to participate in a clinical trial for a personalized combination targeted and immunotherapy in August 2016.  As a result of his therapies, Tim’s cancer was progression-free for over a year.

Everything changed in November of 2016 when Tim went to the emergency room with severe back pain. Thats when a nerosurgon discovered that the back pain he was experiencing was not typical and caused by a metastatic tumor on his lower spine. He had emergency surgery in an attempt to remove the tumor and was hopeful that with radiation this would  just be another setback on his Cancer journey. Unfortunately, since November the Cancer has been relentless and spread throughout his spine. Tim was admitted to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas six weeks ago where he was treated for pain and the loss of feeling in his legs. He also was undergoing daily aggressive radiation. Last week Tim  surrounded by his famiy and with the help of his doctor had to face the realization that he had run out of treatment options at this time.

On Friday March 24th Tim made the courageous decision to return home to the care of his family and Hospice. At this time, Hospice is providing limited care. Family and friends are not capable of caring for him alone. The cost of private nursing  is overwhelming. Tim is no longer able to walk and has developed symptoms that require personalized care. Tim’s medical bills, even with insurance are unthinkable. Tim’s parents have been traveling back and forth from their home several hours away to be with Tim during this difficult time. They have been assisting to care for Tim’s 9-year-old son Lochlain when they are in town. If all of this isn’t enough, Tim’s sister is also undergoing Cancer treatment at this time in Virginia.

We ask that you please keep Tim and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this tough time. We also ask that you please help us with the immediate need in raising money for Tim to cover the cost of hiring Nurses and the immense cost of his medical expenses occurred. We welcome and appreciate any donations. Give what you can there is no amount to small or great every amount matters and is appreciated.

Tim is an amazing man he has dedicated his life to God and the service of others. He is a Freemason, an Eagle Scout and a devoted father. Please help us make sure he is recieveing the care he deserves durring this difficult time.
