Saving Paralyzed Tiger

$3,175 of $3,500 goal

Raised by 87 people in 19 months

Tiger is a seven-year old Corgi/Chihuahua-mix dog who suffered a slipped disc in the thoracolumbar spine, and needed an extensive surgical procedure called a Hemilaminectomy.

His original owners put him through surgery, but when they learned Tiger was still crippled after nine days, they no longer wanted him. Tiger's surgeon had specifically informed them that Tiger needed months to recover from surgery, even built Tiger a temporary wheelchair using PVC piping, but they wanted him immediately euthanized (sutures intact and all!). They weren't happy that Tiger was not able to urinate/defecate on his own. And they claimed they had no time to deal with a handicapped dog, especially with a newborn on the way.

Feeling sad for Tiger, the vet hospital immediately contacted The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) for help. They knew TFPF was Tiger's only chance at survival, and they believed TFPF would be able to care for him and provide him with a brighter future.

Tiger went into the Hemilaminectomy procedure with a guarded prognosis. A pinch test revealed that he did not have much deep pain sensation in his hind. The surgeon says that Tiger may or may not be able to walk again, only time will tell. But most importantly, Tiger is not in any more pain, and he is a very happy boy. And he is being surrounded by people who love and care for him very, very much!

We are currently raising critical funds for Tiger's needs. He will need a customized wheelchair and physical therapy. We will be taking him in for electroacupuncture treatments. And we must rely on medical boarding where he can be fully monitored in the absence of our foster volunteers.

If you can donate towards Tiger's care, we would greatly appreciate your support. Tiger currently gets round-the-clock care (expressing his bladder for urination, cleaning his private areas, and constantly moving him around so he doesn't develop bed sores). This is no easy feat! It will also take us some time to find him the right home -- because, as you may all know, it's always challenging to place special-needs animals.

The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit animal rescue organization based in Southern California. We are committed to FIXing animal homelessness via rescue/re-hab/re-homing of dogs and cats, and widespread spay/neuter efforts.

2/6/2017 - Tiger is HOME!

Fuzzy Friends!

The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) is elated to share with you the incredible news that Tiger, who was disowned by his original "family" after becoming "handicapped," is now in his FOREVER HOME!

After Tiger's story made multiple news headlines, Team TFPF received an out of this world application from Julie, a former veterinary technician now currently a registered nurse (RN), in Atlanta, GA. She stumbled on a news link on Facebook and clicked on it after seeing Tiger's cute little photo. She read about his abandonment and his physical challenges, and knew she had the heart and skills to love and properly care for a paralyzed and incontinent dog.

Here's an excerpt from Julie's e-mail that brought us to tears: "I would love to see Tiger reach his full potential. And, if he never changes, he is perfect the way he is. Medically I am prepared to handle whatever needs Tiger may have... He deserves a wonderful rest of his life filled with love and acceptance and dignity. I can offer all to Tiger."

Team TFPF packed our bags and winter gear to brave the unusually cold weather in Georgia; and we hopped on the plane with Tiger and a suitcase full of diapers, blankets, and treats. We met Julie and her crew of Chihuahuas -- all rescued, all gentle and beautiful, and all eagerly waiting to greet Tiger. Julie was in awe by Tiger's cheerful disposition and his ability to move around with ease in his wheelchair. It was love at first sight! She couldn't believe the same dog who pulled on her heartstrings via a news story would soon come to live with her... FINALLY!

Tiger is happy, comfortable, and adjusting well to his new home. He enjoys exploring the yard! Julie has already introduced him to his new vet and she is continuing his physical therapy sessions at the state-of-the-art NGVS (North Georgia Veterinary Specialists) hospital! And Julie is "thrilled to be taking him on this journey to reach his full potential."

We will be sharing another update soon!

12/31/2017 - Happy New Year!

With your love and support, The Fuzzy Pet Foundation - (TFPF) has been able to continue to give Tiger top-notch medical care. This past weekend, we took him to a wonderful physical therapy center called Two Hands Four Paws for some electro-acupuncture, cold laser therapy, and massages! Tiger charmed everyone with his big smile and zoomed around the whole facility in his wheelchair. He also got some super yummy treats along with his favorite Kong-filled peanut butter!

Next weekend, we hope to announce a sweet, sweet surprise to all of you! Please be sure to check back for all the details. :)

We still have some fundraising to do for Tiger. Will you please help us share Tiger's GoFundMe link?

Tiger's NEW Customized Wheelchair!

11/17/2017 Update!

Hello Fuzzy Friends,

We have reached 10% of our fundraiser goal! Thank you to those who have donated and offered such kind words of encouragement. We appreciate it!

While Tiger awaits a custom wheelchair from Eddie's Wheels in Massachusetts, he is getting exercise in his temporary wheelchair made from PVC piping. It's wobbly, but for now, it does its job and Tiger can move around. We can't wait to fit him in his custom wheelchair that has stirrups in the back so he doesn't scrape his little feet on the ground.

Tiger is such a love-bug, and we are looking to document his journey for all of you. He is so inspirational! He loves to be cradled like a baby, rests his head on a plush doll to go to bed, he has so much personality!

Please continue to share his story and help us reach our fundraising goal!
