Three Oaks Baseball Association
The Three Oaks Baseball Association is a non-profit organization in the community of Three Oaks, MI that has on average 125 kids from ages 5 to 14 that play baseball. Over the years, volunteers, community leaders and parents have worked hard to get this organization to where it was at. Several good baseball players started their career with this organiation. TOBA also holds an annual Flag Day Tournament as well in June that local communities in the same divisions are invited to and they have been successful in running.
Below is the statement we have sent out to the community and link to the WSBT article.
Statement on Faccebook: TOBA FB page
As you may have heard, the Three Oaks baseball Association (TOBA) after an internal investigation, found and confirmed that money was missing from the association and that one person is considered to be responsible. The discovery of the theft was a huge blow and a terrible shock to many people on so many different levels. Perhaps most devastating, there was a deep sense of betrayal from someone who we have all worked side by side with at some point in time, in many organizations in and around the community and our schools. To explain the scope of this loss, TOBA at this time is now taking care of a debt of over $2,500.00. The amount that we believe was taken in a 1 year span is over $37,000 and the embezzlement started 6 days after the accounts were entrusted to this person. We have been and are continuing to do everything we can, with helping the Police and Prosecutor, to keep this case moving forward in hopes that Justice will be served. We will pursue all options available, to try and recuperate as much of the financial loss as possible.
The extent of this loss is huge for this organization. We understand and feel the loss that so many people are going to feel, that have given so much to this organization over the many years. Members, parents, volunteers, coaches, sponsors, supporters, board members, the list goes on and on, but most importantly, our kids. This organization has been built by the hands of this community. TOBA will survive and rebuild, with help and the continued support of our great community.
Going forward we have or are in the process of doing the following;
Immediately instituted internal controls to prevent embezzlement from happening again.
We will delay or reduce non-essential expenditures so we can continue this organization for the kids in our community.
We will put together an annual budget.
Step up fundraising efforts.
Start sending out sponsorship letters soon, to be able to get some funds in to start the year off for the kids.
Regular monthly meetings will be set year round.
We thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
