This is what Mercy looks like...

"...I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you."

Adoption has been a long-time dream for us.  Over the years we have tried to adopt in the various places we’ve lived, but it has never worked out.  When we felt discouraged we remembered this verse: “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

About a year after we moved here, we found out that adoption is possible in this country so we began the process.  It was a long road with many delays, but earlier this year we were approved by the government as a foster family.  A few months ago, Baby Mercy came to live with us!

Mercy did not have a great start in life. After she was born, her birth mother ran away, leaving her at the hospital.  Mercy’s birth weight was quite low, only 5 pounds.  About a week after she was born her birth mother returned to the hospital.  At this point, however, her mother was in very poor health and she passed away.  No family came for Mercy after her mother died.  She was truly abandoned and she remained in the hospital nursery for the first 6 weeks of her life.

When the nursery staff thought she was strong enough to leave the hospital, social services found a safe house where she could live.  Over the next four months two volunteer women looked after her 24-7. They did an excellent job and Mercy thrived at the safe house!

We met Mercy when she was three months old. She was a bit small, but healthy and doing well in spite of her rough start in life.  We immediately expressed interest in adopting her and Mercy came to live with us as soon as we were approved as a foster family.

She has done really well with us!  She is now 10 months old.  She is healthy and happy and sleeping well. She is forming a strong attachment to us. She is a delight to have in our family!

We'd like to ask for your help.  The road to fostering has so far cost very little. But as we move ahead to finalize the adoption here and seek US citizenship for Mercy there will be some significant expenses: legal fees, travel costs to the capital city and immigration fees for the US.

Mercy was abandoned, but God has been looking out for her. He has a very special plan for her life.  He has not left her as an orphan.  He has brought her out of a very broken and desperate situation and given her a family who loves her and delights in her.  She is such a blessing to us!

We look forward to the day when she will become a permanent member of our family through adoption.  With your help, this can become a reality.   We can move forward as soon as we have the funds to do so.

Your gifts will make our adoption dreams reality and give an abandoned child a home, a family, a future and a hope.
