The Emerald Oasis Farm for Women and Children
What is the Thirty for One Challenge? Our goal is to reach 6,000 people to each donate $5 in order to raise $30,000 for the Emerald Oasis Farm in Kericho Kenya. We believe in the power of people and that each person can ripple out to their network to quickly reach 6,000 people. In just a few minutes of your time and only $5, you can make an enormous difference in the lives of many women and children, empowering them to earn money and go to school.
What is the Emerald Oasis Farm? The Emerald Oasis Farm is a place for the women in Kericho, Kenya to work and earn money in order to pay the school fees for their children and to be able to feed and clothe their families. This small village in Kenya has limited job opportunities for women and many women are on their own raising not only their own children but also raising many of the orphans in the area whose parents have passed away.
What school do the children attend in this area? The school that the children attend is Komahill Academy. This is a wonderful school that is run by a couple who upon retirement were asked by the community to open a school since the only one in this village had burned down and the children had no other schooling options.
Partnership with East Side High School in Newark, NJ: After learning about Komahill Academy from staff members that visited the school, the students at East Side High School in Newark, NJ decided to become a sister school to Komahill and help raise funds for school fees for students who were unable to afford school and other essential items the school was in need of. Individual sponsors were also found and in partnership with East Side over 45 students can now attend school each year, 2 large water tanks are on the property to deliver much needed water to the school and outdoor physical education equipment was supplied to the school.
Why the farm? We believe that all people deserve the opportunity to support themselves and their families. The Emerald Oasis Farm is exactly that, a beautiful emerald green oasis where women can work and be self reliant. In a matter of 3 years, the farm will generate over $85,000, fully supporting the women and children in this village.
How can you help? You can make a huge difference simply by taking a few minutes and donating five dollars, and then sharing the link with at least 10 people you know, asking them to do the same. We all can create a “ripple” where a small action can ripple out all the way to Kericho, Kenya, changing the lives of so many people. Your ripple is Real!
We are in partnership with FPYouthOutCry Foundation. Their mission is to increase opportunities for success to youth and their families in under-served communities through experiences that heal with entertainment, education and empowerment activities. The work they primarily do is in Newark, NJ and they have expanded their reach to Kenya where the money raised each year goes to the school fees of children in need.
