My Grad School Journey

I'm going to be very vulnerable with everyone for a minute- I'm terrified of the next 6 months.

I've grown up struggling with money my whole life- which may be something y'all did or did not know. That's because my whole life I've been the kind of person who hates to ask for help. You might remember me even being scared to ask your parents for a ride home from school, because I'd rather walk than be a burden. I still hate to ask for anything, but I've recently come to realize that my pride could stand in the way of my education.

The longest story short is senior year has a bunch of fees attached to it, and I'm broke. And I'm not broke from a lack of effort. I currently have a full time job, and two part time jobs. In addition to going to school full time, extracurricular activities, and community involvement, I'm working between 70-80 hours a week. I'm making ends meet, but don't have enough leeway to take care of these school expenses.

Between graduation fees, GRE test fees, application fees, moving expenses, and other costs of the sort, I'm drowning.

I have big plans for my life...plans that are bigger than my bank account is. I'm on track to graduating Summa Cum Laude and competing for the Valedictorian spot. Next fall, I want to enter a master's program and work my way to a JD and/or PhD- hopefully one day ending up on Capitol Hill or the White House. I understand if you can't help, or if you can only help a little- but a little can go a long way!

Lastly, I want to say thank you to those that have helped me along the way to this point. To those that have given me test materials, replaced broken laptops, fed me, given me a place to crash, or any word of encouragement- I would NOT be the person I am without you. Thank you for believing in me, and supporting me. I will work to make you proud.

Funding so far has been used to take the GRE, apply to 5 programs, and pay for graduation. I am continuing to raise money to supply future textbooks, academic travel, and moving expenses.

I am so overwhelmed by the generosity of those I know and those I have never met before. Thank you for helping me excel. This gift is one I am forever grateful for!
