Dear Family and Friends,

Melissa Thielen, mother of Avery had a brain aneurysm rupture Sunday evening, November 25th in the arms of her beloved husband, Joe.  This happened very suddenly and without warning.  Melissa was rushed to Sherman Hospital in Elgin where her medical needs were greater than they could provide. She was transferred to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge that evening where they did everything they could for Melissa. With broken hearts, we announce that the damage to Melissa's brain was too severe to recover.  Melissa passed on  November 26th at the young age of 37. We have lost a beautiful soul far too early.  The pain and loss her family is experiencing is more than anyone should ever have to bear. Joe and Avery's life has been forever changed, they have lost a soul mate and a mother.

Melissa was a devoted and loving wife,  mother, sister, aunt, friend, and so much more. A brilliant individual and creative problem solver, there truly was nothing she could not accomplish. She dedicated herself first and foremost to her relationships and lived to serve others. She always made time to listen, lend a helping hand, or offer a kind word. Melissa left this world a better place than she found it, and she will be greatly missed.

She was born as Matuka Weinstein in Chicago, IL on December 19, 1980 to Emery and Rachel Weinstein. She attended Streamwood High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Joseph Thielen, who she married on July 22, 2006 in Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada. On February 29, 2008, they welcomed into the world their beloved daughter, Avery Grace Thielen.

Melissa is survived by her daughter Avery; husband Joe; sisters Stacy, Ayala, and Elizabeth; brother Shai; father Emery; step-mother Peggy; nieces Amanda, Abigail and Alice; nephews Bailey, Josh, Owen, Timothy, Aiden and Kaleb; sisters-in-law Sarah, Libby, and Diana; brothers-in-law Tim, Frank, and Derek; mother-in-law Chris; and fathers-in-law Geoff, and Brig. She was predeceased by her mother, Rachel.

A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Dundee Funeral Home, 525 Dundee Ave, East Dundee, IL, 60118 with an open ceremony to take place from 1:00-2:30 pm and an open gathering to take place from 2:30-5:00 pm.

This page has been set up by the family of Melissa, Joe, and Avery Thielen. The funds collected through this platform will help honor Melissa's memory and provide a measure of financial support to Joe and Avery as they figure out how to navigate this extremely challenging chapter in their life.

The Thielen / Weinstein family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
