Unity Gardens Community Center

Tax deductible
Unity Gardens Inc is a local non profit dedicated to connecting our community to fresh produce, nature, and each other. We do this through supporting over 40 free food gardens where everyone is welcome regardless of income, neighborhood, age, or any other criteria. It is a dignified food experience.

Our free food model has expanded - we now conduct free gardening classes, pot luck picnics, free garden camps, and other projects. At our central LaSalle Square Unity Garden,, thousands of visitors, volunteers, and neighbors visit to enjoy our native wildflowers, goats, chickens and bee hives! Nestled in one of the most severe food deserts, LaSalle Square grows food where many have no transportation and no grocery stores are nearby.

These programs are limited by weather and seasons. Imagine hosting over 80 children at our day camp and having a storm blow in! Volunteer groups schedule months in advance only to be rained out. Winter always comes too soon, just when we have developed relationships with area neighbors,.

Unity Gardens needs a Community Learnig Center where we can be with our neighbors year round; hosting classes, making produce available, and harnessing volunteer energy. We have a floor plan and some support! All it takes is another $300,000 to build this Community Learning Center and make this free food model self sustaining and relpicable for other communities!

We have already raised over $100,000; enough to break ground and get started! Your donation will help Unity Gardens:
*Shelter our free Garden Camp Kids
*Provide indoor volunteer space
*Create a food hub in a severe food desert
*Build a community gathering place
*Provide a home for Unity Gardens

This support will fund our building, complete with an educational greenhouse, indoor outdoor markert space, two classrooms, indoor volunteer space, office space, and indoor plumbing! Within on of the classrooms will be a commercial kitchen where we can prepare value added products for sale to support the free food gardens. With your help we can even purchase the furnature for our classrooms, refridgeration for our market produce, and be completely ready to host our community by next winter!

Unity Gardens will start the shell of the building this winter, and by next fall we should be complete. Having this Community Learning Center will help us connect with our community without seasonal interruption. The increased efficiency will help us support our organization through our market store front. Imagine if all our communities had ample access to fresh produce! Together we can make this happen!

Unity Gardens is a necessary safety net; a wellness model that makes sense for us all. We are increasingly disconnected from our food and each other. It is clear that we need a solution. We have one. Please help us grow for us and our future generations!
