The String Bank Non-Profit

Donation protected
The concept of the The String Bank arose during the beginning of the year while founders and USC Thornton students John Mietus and Jonathan Sussman were teaching music at several underprivileged schools in Los Angeles. They realized that even when students had access to instruments, those instruments were often unusable due to the number of broken strings on each instrument that the school could not afford to repair. Our goal is to solve this problem by creating an easy and cost effective system for professional musicians to donate strings to these schools and to these students: in bulk through the orchestras and music conservatories.

We are contacting and recruiting major symphony orchestras, universities, and conservatories to collect the musicians' used strings in bulk and ship them to our central location. Several LA orchestras have already expressed interest including the LA Phil, LA Chamber Orchestra, and UCLA. From there we redistribute them to schools in need of resources for their music program. Ultimately, we hope to make The String Bank a national network of orchestras and schools as well as promote individual donations of strings to ensure no student is unable to pursue their passions because of a lack of strings.

We need this money to launch The String Bank and send our first batch of strings to schools in need. This program will make a difference in the lives of thousands of aspiring young musicians.
