We will always remember Sid. The funny, crazy, silly, geeky guy we all loved. We will forever remember his bravery as he fought a battle against his own lungs and won. We will also remember the battle he fought against his new lungs and lost. Sid was a fighter and he inspired us all.

The reason Sid's lungs gave out in the first place is still a mystery. Due to his unusual circumstances, the treatments that Sid received in order to survive were cutting edge treatments practiced by some of the greatest doctors in the world. Although Sid did not survive, the amount of knowledge that doctors gained from his case will continue to help other patients like him in future.

Sid has done his part to help other lung transplant patients, and now it is our turn. We are raising money and awareness for the field of Lung Transplants.

Lungs are the most difficult organ to transplant in the human body. Also, like any other transplant, the patients have to wait for a tragedy to strike to another undeserving individual in order to recieve a healthy pair of lungs. During the wait period, the patient has to be kept alive and healthy enough for a transplant, which, also requires cutting edge technology and research in order to succeed.  Although there are several doctors out there that are working day and night to help patients like Sid, there isn't enough awareness about how lung transplants work and what procedures patients have to go through before and after a transplant.

The purpose of The Sid Foundation is to help advance the field of Lung Transplants by raising money and awareness and to hopefully prevent anyone else from suffering the same fate that took our precious Sid away from us.

Here is an interview of Sid from The University of Kentucky after his successful double lung transplant performed by his surgeon Dr. Charles Hoopes.
