Dan Ryckert vs. Patrick Klepek

Donation protected
The Ryckoning is upon is, fellow goombas.

Over the past few weeks, a battle has been raging.

Giant Bomb's Dan Ryckert has been "creating" nightmarish levels of pain and suffering for Super Mario Maker, while Kotaku's Patrick Klepek decided it his life goal to ensure these stages are beaten, cleansed of their misery.

Giant Bomb published a news story about the whole thing yesterday.

Now, it's come to a head. This has to end. There must be winners, there must be losers. On Friday, Patrick called for Dan to make a level worthy of his time.

Dan, unable to resist a chance to wear an American flag, quickly responded.

Here are the rules of The Ryckoning:

The moment Patrick begins the stage, available by typing in 861E-0000-009C-8913, he has 72 hours to finish it. He cannot seek out help, so please avoid bombarding his Twitter with hints.  He's going to avoid them. This begins on Monday morning at 9:30 am EST, as as part of Patrick's Mario Maker streams.  If Patrick pulls this off, Dan must donate $100 to charity. The reverse is also true. But if Patrick can't beat it, he must publicly declare: "I quit."

Patrick's charity is the American Heart Association:

"My dad passed away due to a heart attack, and so did my dad's dad and my mom's dad. That, uh, doesn't set a a good precdent for me, you know? Bad track record there, Klepek family! There's more that can be done to understand the complications of the heart, and in my pursuit to defeat the monster that is Dan Ryckert, I'm proud to represent the American Heart Association."

Dan's charity is the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation:

"When Patrick looks into the camera and says 'I quit. Dan Ryckert has defeated me as a man and as a Mario fan,' his $100 and every cent raised here will go to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation. I've struggled with severe anxiety disorders for 13 years, and I've met so many people that live with anxiety, depression, and more on a daily basis. I've chosen the B&B Research Foundation to support their research in psychological conditions such as these."

But why stop there? If we're going to do this, let's do this, which is why we're asking you to turn this really stupid thing into something really great. We're trying to raise a bunch of money for charity while making (and playing) a bunch of really awful Mario Maker stages, and this is where you should donate.

The pot goes to the winner's charity of choice. Show your support on Twitter under #TeamRyckert and #TeamKlepek, and let others know where they can donate to a good cause (charity) for bad reasons (playing these stages).

Please forgive us, Mr. Miyamoto.
