April 1, 2012 was the start of a life-changing journey for our family of 4, and it has brought us so much joy and happiness. We are forever grateful for the support of the community and look forward to many more years to come. Now that we are in our 7th year of business, we are now a family of 5, and the last few years have had their ups and downs. With numerous medical issues, a terrible car crash, and most recently the death of Kara's mother, it’s been quite the struggle to remain composed and continue operating our business.

Over the years, we have gotten to know so many members of the Mid Coast Maine region, as well as families from all over the state, and across New England. We even have repeat visitors every year from around the United States, and other countries, and are always blown away by the overwhelmingly positive feedback and kindness all these people provide.

We couldn't do this without YOUR support and thank each person who has understood that family comes first. And that this break we've taken will only strengthen that of ourselves, as well as the business you've come to love and endorse.

Now for the hard part, asking for help. The saying about it taking a village, isn't only about raising children. The people that walk through our doors every day are the reason we do this, and we don't want to let anyone down. Being a small business owner comes with its challenges, and the outcome is all in how you handle them.

Our closure was announced after much heartache, but without much warning or advanced planning. We decided to remain as transparent as possible, and to try and make the most of a bad situation. As explained in April, some of the current struggles in our family life prompted us to take a step back to collect ourselves, and in turn allowed us another opportunity: renovation.

A chance to further grow and improve our business is something we've longed to do for quite some time. The question has always been how? Or most importantly, when? We operate a business that is open 7 days a week, which means there is simply never a GOOD time to do this. Painting, and installing new carpet and flooring are rather quick projects, but they take time. Crews of people need to come in, and setup with their materials and tools, and the work then needs to be completed. The coordination of such is a process in and of itself.

Those are only a few things we would like to do merely to provide a nice, fresh addition to our space. Then there is the creative piece, which also takes time to develop and plan out. Now that we've committed to this project, failure is not an option. And in turn, we've come up with quite the wish list of improvements and things we would like to add to The Rumpus Room. The next important factor here is the financial aspect, which also goes back to the unplanned beginning. This wasn’t exactly in the budget, but now that we've started dreaming big, we cannot stop.

In the end, we are aiming for an element of surprise, so don't want to reveal too much just yet. But like Walt Disney once said, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." Hence this fundraising campaign, where we are putting it all out there, and had no idea what to put in for a goal amount. Who said the sky is the limit? It's not. We're shooting big and hoping others will share in our vision.

With each contribution, YOU will help to make our dreams a reality. And while the closure is hard on all of us, we can hopefully complete much of the work over these first few weeks of Summer. Depending on the success of this campaign, we hope to be able to provide even more greatness than we initially planned for.

Progress and sneak peeks will be posted along the way, but we can promise that you'll be excited for what is ahead. Think lots of new toys and equipment, and brand-new structures to play with.

Donations in the form of gift cards to places such as Lowe's/Home Depot, Target, and Amazon will also be graciously accepted. We are also looking for specific items such as lumber and helping hands for other fundraising efforts. And of course, if you prefer to contribute to The Rumpus Room directly, we can provide you with more information on how to do so.

Lastly, the most important thing here is to build on the wonders of Social Media, so if you wouldn't mind, please take a second to share with other fans of The Rumpus Room, or maybe to someone else you might think will enjoy our space. And because we are a business that is community oriented, please remember how many people this will benefit for years to come, including your own children. Perhaps there are family members of yours that would like to extend your love in the name of donating to this cause.

Thank you in advance for your love, support, and understanding! It truly means the world to us.

Much Love,
The Rumpus Room
(Alan, Kara, Luc, Dusty, and Charley)
