Project Road to Recovery

My name is Jessica Dial, my husband's name is Christopher Dial and in 2007 his life took a turn and changed drastically when he was in a life threatening car accident that has left him disabled for the rest of his life (pics above). He is 30 years old, we have been married for 8 years and we have 3 beautiful children. In 2007 he was the passenger in a truck, when another truck hit them at an estimated 80 miles per hour directly into the side of the truck where Chris was sitting. I was not there for the accident but from what I was told by his friend and the paramedics that they were hit so hard after impact their truck was thrown through someones backyard fence and stopped mere inches from the people house. The paramedics also told me that Chris was not wearing his seat belt and that if he was he would have been crushed instantly by the other truck on impact. At 11:30 pm January 21, 2007, I received a phone call that Chris was being transported via life flight in critical condition. When I got to the hospital and saw him on the stretcher he looked so bad and bloody I thought he was dead. The doctors had ran several tests to figure out what all was injured and to see if he had any internal injuries. When they were done the doctors told me that other than major head trauma a few internal bruises and stitches, he was going to survive. Shortly after his accident he tried to go back to work as a fire watch at a plant in Deer Park and we thought everything was going to be ok but after about 3 days his head started to swell anytime he would put on his hard hat and he started was having black out seizures throughout the day and while driving. He found a job at Jiffy Lube thinking it might a little bit easier since he wouldn't have to wear a hard hat and he could car pool with his brother in-law but after about 8 months he had to quit because of his injuries and in 2008 was the last he had been employed or driven a vehicle and he has been on social security disability since. He went to see multiple doctors, neurologists, psychologist, psychiatrist, and many more. After many years and continuous tests and therapies, they have diagnosed him with Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, severe Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. One of his psychologists had recommended he start a project of taking things apart and trying putting them back together to retrain his brain on how to function properly, to remember things and take his time to complete tasks. Among other hobbies and interests one of the projects mentioned was to work on a car. We thought this was a great idea because growing up he always had a passion and knowledge for mechanics and after high school he went to San Jacinto college and received ASE certification for mechanics. About 3 years ago we were able to trade a car that we weren't using for a project car. It is a 1988 ford Mustang GT, making this the 4th mustang he has owned and built. He immediately dove into it and started taking it all apart and I know he finally felt like he was useful for something once again. After getting the car torn down we started saving for parts and bought what we could. I got a job in The Colony, Texas and we did not have a place to store the mustang, so we moved but the car had to go to my parents till we could afford to bring it home. Shortly after I started my new job Chris started having too much of a hard time with his disabilities that I was forced to quit so I could take care of him and our 3 kids. We also had to move back to our home town to be near family that could help with our daily life and to get back into seeing the appropriate doctors. After many months of psychiatry and medicines, I think he feels he is ready to start working on his project once again. Unfortunately, I am still unemployed and we are barely living off of his social security disability income, which doesn't leave any room at all for the project. So I have started a go fund me page in hopes to raise enough money to continue on with this project and continue my husbands training in hopes that maybe one day he may be able to live a relatively normal life. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly into building this car. I will provide a list of parts along with pictures of the car to update everyone on the progress.
