HEY HEY HEY PEEPS!
I am so excited to have been able to head into 2018 so strong with so much support from my peers, friends, family, and artistic mentors. The past three years with Johnnie Cruise Mercer/TheREDprojectNYC has been quite a journey! From our first self-produced concert in my hometown Richmond, VA in 2015 to our current residencies at Abrons Arts Center, RestorationArts, and York College (Cuny Dance Initiative). We are happy to have grown and expanded so much both as a company and artistically.
This year we are happy to perform at one of the best, and most homey dance/performance festivals in the country. On April 22nd 2018, (3pm/5pm) we will have the amazing opportunity to share our latest work plunge in/to 534 as a part of the FuseBox Festival 2018 in Austin, TX. With such an amazing chance to share work, comes equally as high stakes/costs. With all costs covered for rehearsals, performances, and per diems, we are in need of a mere $1,200 to ensure transportation and lodging for the company artists performing. We need your help in order to make this awesomeness happen!
THE WORK
Conceptualized through the lens of Johnnie Cruise Mercer’s black southern queer-baptist roots plunge in/to 534 initiates a ritualistic ceremony (a practice) that calls/responds to the need for emotional, spiritual and generational release.Plunged into the spirit, the body reacts and finds joy in exhaustion. It clings to the acceptance of weight. Pain becomes the inspiration for continuation. Exhaustion. Sweat. Blood. Your (our) fluids become the call to conjure figures that linger in the darkness. The audience, I, we all are transported into an exorcism, a ritual of containment, of freedom, of war between realism, and deep trance. Our poly-centric origin is given permission to possess us- as our people, we are called upon. Something responds. Deep. Inside, it responds.
plunge in/to 534 actually marks the premiere of the first work of ‘and to the decades of hell’, a four year creation process documenting, remembering, and engaging the years 2000-2020. Segmented into ten individual process-memoirs, I am excited to question both personal and generational connections to the contemporary and peer into what follows soon after.
THE NEED
Your donation will help purchase and secure all lodging and transportation for tRpnyc artists. It will also go towards travelling fees while in Austin! Here is the breakdown:
$700.00- Flight Cost for Actor/ Company Artist
$400.00- Lodging for artists
$100.00- Uber/Transporation while in Austin, TX
THE INCENTIVE
ANYONE AND I MEAN ANYONE who donates more than $50.00 will recieve free tickets (front row seats) to our upcoming tRpNYC Season at NYU Tisch's Jack Crystal Theater on May 31st and June 1st 2018!!!!
