Pitts Family House Fire Devastates

Donation protected

My sweet little sister, Alysa Elizabeth, and her precious family, including her 5-year old baby girl, Harper Gray, and her husband Colby Pitts narrowly escaped death in the middle of the night last night when their house burnt to a crisp.

I received  a call in the early hours of February 3rd from my mother that our sweet angel, Harper, was sleeping when my sister heard crackling and popping noises, surrounded by the sound of pieces of house falling.

She and Colby opened their bedroom door around 3:30 in the morning only to be surrounded by billowing plumes of smoke. My sister ran immediately to Harper's room where she lay sound asleep and grabbed her running out of the house beginning to burn around her. She didn't grab her phone. She mustered everything inside her to escape the scorching house to save her family.

Colby managed to get out and they watched everything they own, their safety net, the place they cuddle their baby to sleep, the place they cook, the couch they snuggle up to watch movies, Harper's toys and clothes, the nest where they have been crafting new memories just short of their one year wedding anniversary get erased ember by crackling ember. Their first home together. My sister's first home she's ever owned. Harper had her space, her own room where she could play and imagine, finally a sense of stability and now my heart is absolutely crushed for her.

The somewhat comforting thing is she is so young that the gravity of the situation has not sunk in, to the point where as they were in their car watching the house burn down she asked if they could make pancakes today for breakfast. Her sweet, innocent and beaming heart just radiates goodness. During this time we will come together as a family and do everything that we can to create a new foundation for my sister and her family. My mom is absolutely devastated right now. My brother is shaken so badly at the thought of death being so precariously close to people who basically make up the contents of our heart. Our sister is a piece of us as we are a piece of her. My heart breaks every second we are apart and the mental image of smoke and fire surrounding two of the greatest loves we have fills us all with sheer terror. Luckily, right now Colby's family lives nearby and they are staying at his parent's house as they grieve for their loss. I know they are workig hard now to provide the support Colby needs.

So we are getting this skeleton of a framework up to try to begin to seek support wherever available to help my sister who is in dire need of so many layers of support to carry the weight of this tragic situation. I am not sure what started the fire yet. I know very little at this time. All that I know is that she needs me and anyone else who can provide her a semblance of comfort and hope. Harper needs every ounce of love and support she can get to foster a future for her precious heart. Colby is going to need all the support he can get to keep the family together and moving forward.

All we can do is begin to help her rebuild while she is shook. I will continue to update this thread as we learn more. But, right now, just hours from almost losing their lives and losing everything they've worked hard for, I ask that if you have anything to possibly give that could help my sister, I would forever be grateful. The world needs more support networks. If we can tap into the enormous network that Facebook/GoFundMe gives us as a platform for connection at our best and worst moments in life, we have a greater chance for survival and thriving. Even if it is just sending a positive thought, a prayer, a suggestion for ways to cope, anything at all, steeped in any roots that you might have for learning how to cope. I hope that by creating this platform for others to share all along the spectrum of what's possible, the universe will surround my sister, my beautiful niece, and her love with mental, financial, and physical support.  It is at that moment she can feel all the love and find hope in their future.
