Phoenix Memorial Project

Drew was a phoenix, a shining star, a fighter always getting back up and spreading his wings when the world burned him down. Despite tramendous challengs, Drew was always the person who believed that people were inherently good and we must never throw them away. Everyone deserved a second chance, or a third or a fifth. He knew that people fell down and needed help to get back up. He knew the challenges they faced were not always, or even often, the result of their own doing and we shouldn’t judge who to help and who to turn away from. He would have given anyone anything they asked for within his power. Weeks before his death he commented how he knew what it was like to need help and if someone asked him for bus fare, a few dollars to get a meal, he’d give it to you if he could. He would have spent the rest of his life doing exactly that. Helping those in need. Drew’s passion was indeed people.  Drew had a long history working in the non-profit world. In Madison he was working on Corporate Social Responsibility and what it meant to operate a business based on a Social, Ecological and Economic principles. He called it the Triple Bottom Line and it took much of his attention as he moved forward in his life and career choices.
