The Music Room Roof Patchup

Our target is 5000 people to give £1 each. The Music Room story so far  amazes me (click the link to see our web site).  Last year I was gifted a large 2000 square foot building in a very bad state of repair apart from one room that's  watertight..  That one room I call "The Music Room". From that room, as a piano teacher and as a volunteer I intended  to teach, nurture and encourage musicians of all ages and all stages.  I didn't realise at the time how much interest there would be... With no money or funding income but incredible goodwill and community spirit, a team of teachers, friends and helpers very soon joined me. Together we have made a dramatic impact touching the lives of 1000s so far.  We have given hundreds of music lessons in all types of instrument to individuals and groups, facilitated performances and live lounges for all types of performance including, dance, music, drama, comedy and poetry.  We started 2 annual festivals - the Wee Burns Supper and Maidens of Music (web site www.maidensofmusic.co.uk) and we have written a professional show and created an all female adult rock band and an all female teenage band too. The problem is, the building is unstable, this Winter the cold and the rain will have a major impact on the infrastructure and  without work being done on the roof  The Music Room will need to close.  It smells of damp caused by the rain pouring through the roof next door.  It is impossible to heat during the cold spells and water seeps through into The Music Room during heavy rainfall. We are setting up The Music Room Foundation but it's not ready yet and cannot afford to develop this large building just yet though we are hopeful in the long term we might.  The Music Room Foundation will rent out units in the building, once it is renovated, to receive an income.  Our intention is that nobody in our area (Dumfriesshire) would miss their vocation in the performing arts due to lack of money for lessons.  Once the Foundation has its self driven income stream in place individuals and groups will be able to apply  for scholarships or subsidies.  In the immediate future we will be forced to stop using The Music Room unless we carry out a major patch up job on the roof - we estimate that £5000 will be enough to stop the rain coming in for long enough to allow us to get our business plan for the longer term in place.  Please take a look at our web sites, there are loads of photographs and videos showing what we have done so far for our community and what we are hoping to do in future.
